The last 5 and the upcoming 5 years seem to be casting a shadow on software strategies in #automotive. It is easier said than done to build #software products at scale that people love to use every day. The technology curve gets steeper every single day. Lots of uncertainty and opportunity with GenAI. Without a doubt established automakers can find a pathway to becoming successful in software whether building in-house or teaming up with third-parties and suppliers. And figuring out the best way to engineer (or acquire) a #SDV platform of the future is mandatory. However, the inevitable refresh of existing SW strategies will seriously need to account for being ambidextrous by stepping up the game in ways to 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜e 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 + 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬e 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. A key question...maybe: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 do OEM's increase intensity of focus for the 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞-defined vehicle 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 "𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬" 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 that is accretive across the enterprise? -->What are the procurement strategies given the content of components is software and alignment with hyper scalers, semi-conductor platforming? -->What will the customer experience become with an OEM when the relationship with the buyer does not end at the vehicle transaction? -->How are OEM's adapting their business models to incorporate both physical and digital service lanes throughout the vehicles life-cycle? -->What is the transformations of product development from parts-based towards feature-based processes and systems? -->How should finance controllers look at vehicle program costs structures in a world of where OEMs are the tier 1 supplier of software updates and maintenance post sale? Does your team have eternal work items that never seem to get released? Is there always, "just one more thing" that needs to be added before it's "done"? This common issue points to an inability to set expectations with customers on what incremental releases of value look like. This can best be avoided if a shared, known definition of done is established from the beginning. Seek to set expectations with customers on what will be released first (need to haves) and what can be released later (nice to haves).
