European Integration Summer School (EISS), Deadline: 1 April 2024 Although it has recently been challenged by a series of crises, such as the ongoing pandemic, the European Union (EU), which presumably is the most prominent institutional foundation of regional integration in Europe, still remains of paramount importance in several policy areas at the global stage. The EU clearly is not a superpower, but it certainly ranks as one of the most important actors on the global stage. The EU not only affects the lives of more than 500 million inhabitants living within its territory, but it also has a significant impact on millions of people living outside of its borders. How can we study the European Union as a prime organization of Europe’s contemporary political order? From 2024, the summer school will be offered as a Blended Intensive Program (free of charge) in collaboration with the FORTHEM European University Alliance. https://lnkd.in/dPNB_Qxt

Today, we were honoured to host Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of the Higher Education Unit at the European Commission at the Hertie School in #Berlin. In collaboration with representatives from three other prestigious universities and EU alliances in Berlin, we delved into the future of the #EuropeanDegree and the #EuropeanUniversityInitiative. Discussion highlights: 🎓 The #EuropeanDegree is a game-changer for students and doctoral candidates. With a new blueprint from the European Commission, our alliances are actively addressing both internal and external challenges to make it a reality for all our communities. 🌐 Since the inception of the #EuropeanUniversityInitiative, there have been extensive exchanges among universities and with national and local authorities on removing barriers to transnational degree programmes and education. Let’s continue our collective efforts to transform #HigherEducation across Europe for the benefit of all. So much to reflect on after being selected to attend this year's EERA European Educational Research Association summer school program wiith a titled theme - Decolonise, Democratise, and Develop. It was an opportunity to bond with some powerful academics and scholars out there but also re-evaluate how we do our research in education. Take Adult Education as an example - authors from UK, US, Australia and Canada have authored 66% of all articles published. 85% of the most quoted authors live geographically in those 4 Anglophone countries and 72% are men. So, next time you read an academic or non-academic article about international education in particular - check out the references used, who is given the most platform to address international education issues and are we really writing about international education if our bibliometric data is from the four above-mentioned countries? Some of the many issues to reflect on.

🌍📘 Yesterday, during a speech, President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the vital role of training, research, and higher education in shaping Europe's future. The progress of the European university alliances continues to be relevant today. At YUFE, we are thrilled to be at the forefront of this transformative journey, working towards a more integrated, innovative, and inclusive higher education landscape across Europe. 🎓 The initiative of reinforcing financial support and fostering the creation of entirely joint European degrees aligns with the YUFE core values. The YUFE Bachelor in Urban Sustainability Studies is planned to see the light in the academic year 2025/2026. 🔹 The "blue footprint" represents a pathway leading us toward a united and empowered European academia. 🤝 Together, let's forge connections, broaden perspectives, and empower the next generation of Europe. During our International Study Course trip in Switzerland, Jacques Bøgh, CFO & COO of Beekee, led our students on a walk through Geneva. This excursion was invaluable for the students, offering them a firsthand look at Geneva’s history and culture, as well as its significance in various industries. Among the many interesting facts conveyed were: 1. Geneva’s historical evolution: Jacques taught the students about Geneva's origins, covering its history tracing back to Julius Caesar's era where it was established as part of the Roman Empire to the relationships between the Protestants and Catholics throughout its history. 2. Political landscape: Switzerland has a unique political structure in many ways. From its neutrality to its direct democracy - allowing citizens to directly vote on key issues - the system fosters citizen engagement in governance. 3. Leaders in education: The Swiss education system, particularly its unique system of two separate educational paths provided students with insights into workforce preparation and academic development. Alongside a traditional pathway to high school and university, there is an a hybrid education model in which students split their time between work experience and learning skills in the classroom that will help them in their jobs. The students would like to personally offer their sincere gratitude to Jacques for taking the time to prepare topics for discussion and show the students around the city. Jacques went above and beyond to ensure the students had an amazing experience learning about Geneva’s history and culture.

Honored to have chaired a panel at the Times Higher Education European Universities Summit hosted by Constructor University where we delved into the reputational performance of German universities. Grateful for the insights and practical advice shared by Helmut Kern, Ellie Cook and Mark Sudbury on how universities can enhance their global reputation. Here are a few key takeaways from our discussion: - Understanding your audience and leveraging data to identify strengths are crucial components in shaping universities reputation strategy - Repuation strategy should be intergrated with the wider institutional strategy & led by the universities leadership team - Collaboration with the academic community fosters innovation and strengthens institutional reputation. - Exploring various initiatives allows universities to adapt to evolving global landscapes. - Continuous evaluation and feedback mechanisms are integral in refining strategies and measuring impact.

Our newly commissioned research from Counterculture Partnership LLP and Public First reveals strong evidence that international postgraduate research (PGR) students play a vital role in building global partnerships, contributing to consortia, and amplifying the UK’s power abroad. 💥🌍 However, there is a lack of systematic information gathered about international PGR students to track their impact. This report urges universities to establish international PGR alumni schemes and more routinely collate case studies to better understand the insights and impact of these students. ➡️ Explore the full report to discover more key findings and recommendations: https://loom.ly/t_YdF_E
