Today, on International Women in Engineering Day, we at ADZ Energy are proud to celebrate the incredible women who are shaping the future of our industry! While women engineers possess immense potential, they remain vastly underrepresented in the field. Here in Australia, only 8.5% of the engineering workforce is female, and globally, that number plummets to just 5%. These statistics highlight the critical need to bridge the gender gap in engineering. At ADZ Energy, we champion diversity and inclusion. We believe that teams with a variety of perspectives are stronger, more innovative, and ultimately, more successful. Women engineers bring fresh ideas and unique approaches to problem-solving, fostering a dynamic and creative environment. That's why we're committed to building a workplace that empowers women to thrive. We offer initiatives that support and mentor female engineers throughout their careers, fostering a culture where they can excel and reach their full potential. Join us in celebrating the amazing women in engineering today and every day! #WomenInEngineering #DiversityInSTEM #ADZEnergy #INWED24 #WeCAIR

For International Women in Engineering Day, we asked Johanie Botha, Project Engineer at EPEC Group what the most fulfilling thing about her work as an engineer is. June 23rd marked the 11th International Women in Engineering Day #INWED. Did you know, that women make up only 13% of the engineering workforce in Australia, according to the "Women in Engineering Report, June 2022" by Engineers Australia? Increasing the percentage of women in engineering teams brings diverse perspectives, creativity, and innovation — all crucial to driving progress and solving complex challenges. We're striving to ensure engineering careers are an attractive choice for all and recognise this as crucial to achieving sustainable progress towards net zero. 💪🌏 #INWED2024 #WomenInEngineering #STEMCareers

Historically, the energy sector, along with engineering and sciences, has predominantly drawn men, highlighting a clear gender imbalance. The facts are harsh - women constitute merely 16% of the workforce in the traditional energy sector, as per International Energy Agency (IEA) reports. ℹ Within our company, the current representation of women stands at 14.7%, reflecting a modest 1% improvement from the previous year. Notably, the most significant gender gap at Adven exists in site operations, where only 3% of the personnel is female. Encouragingly, the representation of female leaders in our company surpasses the industry average of 14.7% reported by the IEA. Today, 16,3% of supervisors are female, and notably, our management teams include an even higher proportion, with 29.7% comprising accomplished female leaders. 💡 We acknowledge the need for transformation towards gender diversity and we have taken actions to make the energy field more attractive for girls and women: introducing energy field at Enerhack’s girls’ camp, cooperating with various schools and universities through events, fairs, and scholarships, and highlighting our own female energy experts in our communications. Our SVP, Human Resources Hanna Summa continues: 💬 “While acknowledging the prevailing male dominance in energy industry, we are committed to fostering a diverse workforce. Continuing the actions in 2022 which included initiates like gender-specific Personal Protective Equipment, in 2023 we elevated our commitment with a Code of Conduct e-learning module, emphasizing diversity and inclusion, and introducing a policy promoting a diverse candidate pool for managerial positions. Additionally, we established the Adven standard for gender-neutral social working conditions on sites, and that coupled with improvement plans for existing locations, builds the foundation for our aim to be the employer of choice for a diverse workforce.” Achieving a seamless #energytransition demands embracing cutting-edge solutions and progressive business models. The key lies in tapping into a broader spectrum of talents. We are working towards a more equal and inclusive energy sector – we hope that all energy companies join this work too! Happy Women’s Day, everyone! ✨ #internationalwomensday #makingdifference #proudtobeadven #diversityequityinclusionandbelonging

I am #StantecProud to be a woman still in engineering. I am certain it is because of the inclusiveness of Stantec, my incredibly smart colleagues and opportunities afforded me to play to my strengths. I hope that I can be an inspiration for young women to pursue a rewarding career in engineering. A study by the Institute for Employment Studies (IES), sponsored by Atkins, found that over the course of a decade, 70% of women employed in engineering left the profession, compared with just 35% of men. The key reason for more women to leave the profession than men was that they were more likely to find that their careers hit a wall. Barriers listed by the IES included; stereotyping, macho cultures creating ‘chilly environments,’ unchallenged discrimination and bias, lack of flexibility in working patterns and arrangements coupled with norms of overwork, excessive workloads and expectations of constant availability, lack of career resources or opportunities, lack of role models, isolation and lack of support coupled with a culture that is perceived to reward those who fit the mold of an ‘ideal engineer.’ If you are facing barriers at your current place of employment, consider Stantec. There are a number of open positions. #WomenAtStantec #INWED2024 #StantecEng

🎉 This Sunday, National Gas proudly celebrates the 11th annual International Women in Engineering Day #INWED24 This pivotal event, created by the Women's Engineering Society (WES), supports women in engineering and advocates for a more inclusive industry. This year’s theme, #EnhancedByEngineering, highlights the incredible contributions of women engineers who enhance lives and livelihoods worldwide. 🌍👩🔧 In the spirit of this year’s theme, we are spotlighting our very own Hydrogen Innovation Engineer, Harriet Guiry, who embodies the essence of innovation and progress in engineering. Here’s a glimpse into her inspiring journey and vision for the future: Harriet's role involves collaborating with stakeholders and managing a variety of projects, ensuring no two days are ever the same. Her work focuses on ground-breaking areas such as Hydrogen Blending, Synthetic Fuels, and managing the National Transmission System (NTS), which she describes as both exciting and dynamic. Harriet’s journey into engineering began with a love for problem-solving and a degree in Energy and Environmental Engineering from the University of Sheffield. Encouraged by female engineers she met along the way, Harriet was inspired to pursue a career where her skills and passion could thrive. She highlights the importance of continuous learning and networking, noting how these aspects make her job at National Gas deeply fulfilling. Looking ahead, Harriet sees a promising future for women in engineering but acknowledges there is still work to be done. She says “The goal is to reach a point where engineering is seen without a gender qualifier. Progress continues, but we must start with children, giving them role models in any profession, so they never question if they can do something but instead ask why wouldn’t they?” Harriet advises young women considering engineering careers to seize every opportunity. "All it takes is 30 seconds of courage to change your path," she says. "Keep learning and remember you’ve earned your place." As we celebrate #INWED24, let’s acknowledge the remarkable contributions of women engineers and inspire the next generation to enhance our world through engineering. 💪 #WomenInEngineering #EnhancedByEngineering

As part of our #WomeninHydrogen campaign, we had the chance to talk to Helen Brocklehurst, Hydrogen Academy Lead at Aerospace Technology Institute When we asked Helen why she believes that there is a lack of representation in the hydrogen sector, she explained that she believes this is due to: Underrepresentation in engineering: “This issue continues to grow, despite a growing female presence. I believe diversity is crucial for problem solving.” Deficit in younger females perusing #STEM careers: “There is a notable deficit in women choosing STEM as a career path. This can be attributed to factors such as societal stereotypes, lack of encouragement and limited visibility of role models.” Retention challenges: “Supportive workplace policies and cultures are essential to retain talent and accommodate the needs for all employees, including parents.” To find out more about the campaign, keep up to date on our website: https://lnkd.in/ggqSAtuX Once our report is finalised, we’ll be sharing our recommendations, calling on both the Government and the industry to help deliver meaningful change by putting our recommendations into practice.

8th of March has a special significance in the domain of Engineering and IT - too often dominated by senior white whales/males like myself. Lets face it: Our pale behinds are placed firmly in the same chair, missing the multi-facetted perspective, that a mix of gender, ethnicity, age ... mindsets can bring. I need not look far to realize this: In one of our local Teams in Copenhagen 3 of last 4* hirings are women, and the positive impact is obvious: Diverse teams simply sees clearer. (Ok, disclaimer: A lot of the success is due to the level of professionalism and fabulous drive by these 3 individuals, but still: Praise the differences!). So women in tech: Come join us in MAN Energy Solutions, we need you ... and you will love this place too! #MANEnergySolutions #FutureintheMaking #MovingBigThingstoZero *) The 4th new member is you, T, and we are so happy you joined too!
