Our team had the opportunity to connect with John Fraser, Superintendent of California State Parks to discuss how civic amenities benefit and positively impact our region as well as a few new opportunities on the horizon. We're excited to continue fostering relationships with all of the organizations that make our state a great place to be.

It was an honour to attend this event and reconnect with some colleagues that were integral on some very important brownfield remediation projects in Brantford. The Greenwich-Mohawk remediation project was one that was highlighted at this event and one that I was so fortunate to spend almost two years of my career working on with all the amazing stakeholders involved. Brantford is a city rich with industrial heritage and more importantly, a city that prioritizes an ongoing commitment to remediating sites with remaining environmental issues inherent in such a progressive industrial history. Beyond this overarching commitment, Jacobs and the City of Brantford collaborated on a remedial approach on the Greenwich-Mohawk site that diverted solid and liquid waste (to the greatest extent possible) by the on-site treatment and re-use of contaminated soils and groundwater. Fun facts about the Greenwich-Mohawk Remediation include: 1. 40,000 tonnes of concrete (slabs, foundation walls, and footings) excavated, crushed and reused on-site 2. 120,000 m3 of clean overburden soil excavated, stockpiled and backfilled upon completion of soil remediation 3. 86,000 tonnes of soil impacted with PHCs and metals excavated and disposed off-site at a MECP-licensed landfill 4. 105,000 m3 of soil impacted with PHCs screened to segregate coarse and fine materials 5. 39,000 m3 of fine-grained soils impacted with PHCs treated on-site in biopiles and reused on-site (backfilled) 6. 66,000 m3 of coarse-grained material impacted with PHCs treated on-site and reused on-site (backfilled) 7. 140,000 L of free-phase petroleum hydrocarbons (LNAPL) recovered from the groundwater and recycled off-site 8. 30,000,000 L of groundwater impacted with PHCs pumped and treated on-site 9. 30,000 tonnes of clear stone and granular fill imported to the site for backfilling What else can I say? Amazing project, amazing commitment, and amazing results! #cityofbrantford #canadianbrownfieldsnetwork #jacobs #remediation

How the Hamilton2030 Commonwealth Games bid inspired Community Regeneration. Things are quiet now. Everything is in transition. Doubts and questions remain, about, well, everything. But something notable happened today in the City Of Hamilton. The start of something significant. While the dream of bringing the 2030 Commonwealth Games home for its centenary may be in abeyance, the vision of a movement of community stakeholders united around the goal of transformation and regeneration remains. And has witnessed new life today in the launch of an initiative inspired by the Commonwealth Sporting movement. Not surprisingly, it is called: "The Commons". The Commons is an initiative of local stakeholders redeveloping the city's key entertainment assets - those that would be central to any Commonwealth Games - and leveraging the effort to promote regeneration and revitalization throughout the community. The themes, values and ambitions of the Gaming movement have now manifest in the private sector's resolve to bring change directly and immediately to this city through infrastructure and compelling new programming - at its expense. This is what the Games movement can and has inspired. Whether or not the Games ever come back here. That flame burns brightly in all of us. And will not extinguish. Whether you are from Hamilton or not, we invite you to keep the Games dream alive by engaging and following the Commons initiative at the link below. Thank you so much to Tom Chance and the team at National CLT Network for the fantastic event on Friday. One person commented that it was exciting to see how many are now coming and how much bigger the event was compared with your last one. Your hard work is working! Very glad also to have the opportunity to catch up with Levent Kerimol, Paul Regan, Colin Glen, Dave Smith, Steve Lee, Jon Lee, Debbie Wildridge, Kennett CLT's Robin Swanson and Lynne McCallum, and to hear from the amazing East Cambridgeshire District Council's Anna Bailey. Sorry to miss Michelle Huggins... Two pleas from me: 1. to local authorities and other public landowners, please recognise that putting sites out to community groups for formal tender isn't required and doesn't make sense if the groups are a vehicle for the local community. Just let the community groups present to Cabinet and tell your officers to work with them; and 2. to lawyers who have devised mechanisms for ongoing price restrictions and community reallocation rights, please get in touch with me and compare notes. Do we need a Lawyers Supporting Community Led Development group? I'm so glad that National CLT Network's efforts secured community scheme exemptions from the Leasehold Reform (Ground Rents) Act 2022 and the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 ban on leases of freehold homes, but how much money do we need to budget for getting the court certificate? Are The Labour Party really intending to remove those exemptions? Commonhold doesn't have the flexibility to meet our permanent discounted price and reallocation demands.

Feeling inspired from today's wonderful Community Land Trust Network 'Building with Communities' conference. Lots of brilliant provocations I will pour into a blog over the weekend. Great meeting many colleagues and fellow practitioners who are deeply committed to this remarkable people powered sector. Sharing time with the old crew from community led housing london - Levent Kerimol Gemma Holyoak Rowan Mackay was really special. Top people .... Hats off to the wonderfully cool Tom Chance who was superb all day and to Beth Boorman Rachel Chance who delivered a superb event. Channel your inner goose ...

What direction is your #place going in? Is it going up? Down? Or is it flat? Some #places slide into a negative spiral downwards. This process can be typified by: ❌ It's difficult to take action or try new things. 🤷♀️ This breeds frustration with the process or lack of action. The call goes up for "Council" or "Government" to "do something?!" When nothing happens; 😕 Confidence declines. Investors leave. People go elsewhere. 🙄 Apathy grows. People lose hope. 🤚 Inertia takes hold. Nothing seems to change for the better. 😠 Anger exacerbates the negative process. 😶 Disengagement and disempowerment kick in and fester. A gloom settles over the #place / #neighbourhood / #community and it goes into long-term decline. It is extremely difficult to break out of the negative spiral, especially when everyone is waiting for "someone else" to "do something". This is one of the biggest #risks for local authorities, landowners, local businesses or communities. Yet, how often is it seriously talked about it? The good news is that the negative place spiral can be reversed, and it might be easier than you think. Stay tuned! I was adding to this post I’m sharing about the Westerville Area Chamber than realized it started sounding just like the review they shared (that I wrote) so I just stopped 🤣 I will say this tho… 1. Your company should join your local chamber. (Very low 💵 fees) 2. Your company should support the local chamber. (Sponsor events etc) 2. You should look to add value to your business community. (Not sell) 3) As you are adding that value, you might make some friends 🤝 along the way (scratch that, you WILL) 4. You might even just get some 💰business from it. (But only after you do what? Yep, add value) BIG NEWS!!! 🥳 RevLocal’s corporate office is moving from Granville to Westerville! Guess who that means you will be seeing more of? So sorry! But seriously, I can’t wait. See ya soon! #chamber #localchamber #networking #smbmarketing #franchisemarketing #revlocalrj #2ndhalf
Thanks R.J. for your review! "I’ve really enjoyed my association with the Westerville Chamber. The staff and board members do a fantastic job of putting on great events, from after hours, to small business groups, informative, relevant luncheons and more. I’d highly recommend any person looking to get involved in the Westerville community to go ahead and make the decision to join the chamber and reap the many benefits!" #TestimonialTuesday #WestervilleAreaChamber #WestervilleOH #supportlocal #Westerville #WestervilleEvents #GoogleReview

This quote by April Holland captures the spirit of exploration and growth that comes with building connections with people whose backgrounds differ from ours. It emphasizes that diversity is not just about tolerance, but about actively seeking out new experiences and fostering meaningful relationships. By building these relationships, we open doors to new experiences, become more empathetic, and enhance our understanding of the world. #diversehamptonroads #buildingbridges #hamptonroads #hamptonroadsva #diversebusinesscommunity #businessdirectory #businessnetworking

New York City, what an amazing place! So many people doing so many things, and so many other people struggling to survive. New York City - a living testament to the power of humanity! A hub where every street echoes with stories of success, dreams, grit, and resilience. But amidst the bright lights and skyscrapers, there's another reality that often goes unnoticed - the struggle of survival. Countless talented individuals, hindered by circumstances, fight their daily battles, striving not for success, but for survival. It's time we turned our attention to them. Not with pity, but with respect for their tenacity and determination. Let's seize the opportunities this great city offers, but not forget to extend a helping hand. After all, the strength of a society is measured not by the wealth of its wealthiest, but by the well-being of its weakest. Let's make this city not just amazing, but amazing for all! Name one thing you can do to improve your own personal New York City.
