i’m proud to serve on the board of directors for TOGETHER! where we’re committed to systems change at every level. nonprofit executive roles are untenable and unsustainable. it’s why turnover is HIGH, and the ability to retain great leaders is RARE. board governance can be a tool to liberate leaders, OR it can be a weight around your neck as you try to swim laps in the deep end. personally, i choose liberation. otherwise, what are we even doing?! #leadershipinsights #boardofdirectors #governancematters #sharedpower #doingthework #forthelove #WE

When board members open their homes for the school, they're not just hosting an event—they're making another form of personal investment in the mission they cherish. There’s a deep sense of fulfillment that comes from seeing their efforts and their hospitality directly contribute to the school’s success. It strengthens their connection to the school and its community, and reinforces their purpose as the institutions highest form of volunteer. When you do something meaningful for an organization you care about, it’s more than just duty—it’s a source of pride and personal joy. That’s the true reward of leadership. Remember these two words: Selective and Recognizable.  When it comes to leadership positions, strive to obtain leadership roles in recognizable organizations such as NHS, STUCO, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts.  Leadership roles in well-known organizations that are selective of their members and where you are elected for your position will earn you more points with the Academies.
