😎 Inspiration and passion 🚵♂️ MVDP has won a second "Roubaix", with a sharp attack leaving the whole peloton stuck on the cobbles (and after a huge work from his teammates, especially Gianni) One week before, the Ronde van Vlanderen 🇧🇪 was for him as well. Earlier in the month, he was helping his buddy Japser winning La Primavera Milan-San Remo, by a decisive aspiration given to him. Everything done wearing his 🌈 jersey gained in Glasgow after an epic race. And before the other 🌈 jersey in Tabor for cyclo-cross, after a season in the mud of the Belgian tracks, the snow of Val di Sole. MVDP is amazing and amazingly inspiring, he : ➡ Shows how a leader embarks a whole team into a long-lasting project : more than 10 years in a row ! ➡ Legitimacy comes from the field and mutual respect : be fair, smart and honest ➡ Leads by example : attacks sharply when needed, helps, brings bidons to the teammates, gets awards and rewards his teammates ➡This sport is individual, but you are nothing without your teammates : winning is a team-affair ➡ Remains a human-being and could not fight for the victory in his homeland for the Amstel Gold Race : failure is not a problem... ➡ Makes his passion his daily routine, his job, his pleasure, his life : live your passion ➡ Confirms that loyalty, trust, recognition and empathy are the best soft skills ever for a great leader : have them part of your behavior and grow them As an amateur rider as I am, MVDP is a great source of inspiration. I will never ever get the tenth of his power and strength on a bike, but he makes me climb more and more and push harder on the pedals at each occasion. Business wise, the bullet points over here are acumens to have by ourselves... What sets a high performing team apart from the rest? If you think about it, winners and losers often have the same goal. Every single crew in the 2000 final of our Sydney race wanted that gold. Teamwork Makes The Dreamwork. Regardless of who is on your team...you won't get very far if you are not all rowing in the same direction...or...swimming in the proper lane!! The US women set a new world record in the 4 x 100 medley relay race...and it was not really even close. In a sport separated by tenths or hundredths of seconds, they won by over 3 seconds! Anyone in business can easily make the comparison of team sports and your team in business. Everyone having a job to do, and the other teammates depending on one another to do that job...for the success of the project, the company...or the race! I am loving these Olympic games...the stories of triumph and overcoming obstacles are just so inspiring. And, the sheer emotion of the wins, slight losses or just even finishing... is visible on every competitors face... be it these amazing young women here or so many other athletes from around the world. So freakin' cool!!! Currently sat on the stationary trainer 🚴 watching the Armagh International 5K. Apart from it’s not, is it? The men’s race is 5K, whilst the women’s is a 3K (a quick look at previous results suggests it’s always been this way). Yesterday was International Women in Sport day & I can’t help but think it leaves a bitter taste for the women’s international race to be almost half the distance of the men’s international race. For context, Armagh5k is one of the world’s most revered running road races, with some of Europe’s best runners descending on this small Northern Irish town every February. Credit where credit is due to the organisers for keeping this event running during trying times & also running a livestream. I appreciate that the reality of running events is far more difficult than it appears on paper. 👏 Perhaps there is good reason for the women’s event being 3K (selection criteria for a championship event, perhaps?), in which case I apologise for calling this out; but I can’t see one personally. It’d be great to see the women’s race be run over the billed 5K in 2025. Why not make it the main event on alternate years by running the men’s race first next year, too? 👀 Be interesting to hear my network’s thoughts on this!👇 #equality #womeninsport #armagh5k #athletics

For many of you who have known me for a while, you know that the sport of cycling, and especially, the Tour de France, is something I follow intently every year. Today ,the cycling world witnessed a historic moment as Sir Mark Cavendish (one of my favorite riders of all time) achieved his 35th Tour de France stage win, surpassing the legendary Eddy Merckx's record of 34 wins. Despite facing adversity and doubts, Cavendish's perseverance and will to win prevailed. This victory, coming 16 years after his first stage win in 2008, showcases the power of resilience and dedication. Cavendish, known as the "Manx Missile," overcame a career-threatening crash last year, displaying remarkable fortitude. His success is a testament to the support of his family, team (ASTANA QAZAQSTAN), and unwavering belief in himself. As he once said, "If your goal truly matters, you will never quit," inspiring us all to push through challenges towards our aspirations. While most of us may not be professional athletes like Cavendish, we can learn from his journey. Perseverance, the ability to persist despite difficulties, is key to achieving success. Reflect on what truly matters to you and what goals you aspire to achieve. What a start

1st of September: Ironman 70.3 Duisburg. Not the race that I was hoping for, but that is also part of Ironman racing. Adapt to the circumstances, manage expectations and bring that baby to the finish line. 📍How resilient Teams change adversity Kicking of Tuesday with a great example of how resilience and team commitment create a different outcome under adverse circumstances. Team New Zealand are the current defenders of the Americas Cup, winning it racing on the waters near my mum and dads home a few years back. As the defenders they automatically qualify for the finals. Their boat a 75-footer named ‘Taihoro’ is fast and they are the team to beat. Last week when Taihoro was being removed from the water after racing, the crane broke dropping the boat some six metres onto the support cradle. Significantly damaging its hull. I tuned in to watch the upcoming race only to learn that team New Zealand were not sure how bad the damage was and facing the devastating possibility that they may not be able to participate in defending the cup! Less than 24 hours later, enough work had been done overnight to give hope they could be back on the water sooner than expected. The Kiwis' shore crew worked around the clock to cut out and replace a piece of the hull. Words from the boatbuilders and shore crew: ”We will get this boat back on the water and racing again.” “We have to get the boat sailing as soon as possible.” 💡41 hours later Taihoro is back on the water sailing! What I love about this story is the use of the words We! There was no hesitation by the team. Under these difficult circumstances, they rallied together. Their commitment and collaboration to see this boat back on the water and their resilience significantly altered the outcome. Through major transformations and change we are often confronted with adversity and circumstances that seem like an impossible hurdle. Our greatest assets is our people and our teams ability to rise up collectively, bringing the best of skills and talent together.
