Beyond medical care, many arrive seeking comfort and reassurance in unfamiliar and often frightening situations. Recently, the WHO highlighted the profound impact of compassionate care on patient outcomes. Their article underscores what we practice daily: that showing empathy and care can be as healing as any medication. One poignant example comes to mind—a leukemia patient who came to us for additional tests before seeing an oncologist. She wasn’t just seeking medical answers; she needed time and understanding to process her diagnosis. It reinforced the importance of approaching each patient holistically, addressing not just their physical ailments but also their emotional needs. Let’s continue to advocate for compassionate care in healthcare settings. Better support for our patients - that's one of the key steps needed to get to 10x the number of patients treated by 2028. In last week's panel discussion at Alliance for Regenerative Medicine's Meeting on the Mesa, George Eastwood of the Emily Whitehead Foundation made sure we did not forget how critical patient support is to our goal.   We need to "offer more mental health support and get more public communities of patients to push each other to get this type of care." Patients need more than just a state-of-the-art therapy to take on the journey. They need to feel like they first, have the right supportive resources and second, the opportunity to interact with others like them. Now, how can we expand resources to be available more broadly for patients? #cellandgenetherapy #CGMesa23 #patients

Here, framework to prevent poor quality of dying and moral distress among staff/families: 1️⃣ what most important for patient/family? 2️⃣ invasive monitoring need to continue? 3️⃣ investigations need to continue? 4️⃣ can interventions/treatment be discontinued? 5️⃣ plan clearly communicated to stop treatment? 6️⃣ EOL symptoms anticipated/planned? 7️⃣ preferred/allowed anticipatory medication? 8️⃣ enough time to talk to the family? 9️⃣ patient’s death particularly challenging? 🔟 post-death considerations?
