Clinicians are describing ProSed™, our first product, as potentially game changing when used to optimise propofol sedation in ICU patients. However, simply proving that we can accurately measure blood propofol concentration at the bedside will not be enough to ensure it gets adopted into routine use in the NHS, or any other health system. Our Advisory Board has helped to articulate what benefits can be expected from personalising the dose of propofol given to each patient. Two things that keep being fed back from the ICUs we are working with are the need to avoid delirium (a common side effect suffered by patients being over sedated) and reducing the length of ICU stay. We have commissioned MARKET ACCESS & REIMBURSEMENT SOLUTIONS LIMITED (Peter Llywelyn Roberts) to build a Cost Consequence model. Utilising data from NHS England, we can illustrate at individual hospital level the savings that result from reducing time on a ventilator, the number of pneumonias suffered, or the incidence of delirium by optimising sedation through regular propofol measurement. We will continue to refine the model as we gain experience with our clinical test sites in the months ahead. #medtech #investornews #healthcare #innovation
