Not too let to register and attend! Women Changing the Face of Documentary Photography, Starting at 12 noon ET, via Zoom
Online presentation and discussion with Aida Muluneh, Smita Sharma, and Leah DeVun. Moderated by J. Sybylla Smith.
The who, what and how of witnessing has been changing (ever so slowly) over the past century. Our visual culture landscape is moving towards a more expansive, artistic and instructive approach to documentary photography. This panel of women* photographers will share examples of their work and discuss their innovative and alternative methods of documenting truth and reality. Their work strives to further understanding, influence awareness, and initiate reaction. It is consciously inclusive, collaborative, and transgressive. Knowingly these image-makers intrigue and beguile as their aesthetically compelling images are the result of extensive research, hard-earned access, creative conceptual expression and substantial educational promise.
Painters were scared when photography was invented and worried about going out of business.
But as Santiago Lyon, Photojournalist and Head of Advocacy and Education at CAI, said during Canto’s Content Innovation Summit in March, photography led to more creativity as impressionist and abstract art became more prevalent, instead of hyperrealistic art.
It’s all about change and adapting alongside technology. Ready to learn how technology drives innovation and the future of content and where we’re going from here? Even if you missed the Content Innovation Summit, we've got the sessions on-demand so you can stay in the loop:

The Secretariat and the Executive Board of AMIMUN'24 are excited to unveil a dynamic and creative agenda for our International Press (IP) delegates. We are set to explore the realms of '𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲, 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦’, three pillars that hold the power to change perceptions, provoke thought, and document truth.
In an era where the pen and the lens are mightier than ever, our IP committee will navigate the intricate dance of imagery and words. Photography captures moments that speak volumes, caricatures distill complex narratives into powerful art, and journalism weaves the thread that connects individual stories to the tapestry of human experience.
We challenge our delegates to step into the shoes of artists and storytellers who hold the mirror up to society, reflecting its beauty and its flaws. This agenda is an invitation to critique, to create, and to communicate—to embody the spirit of a world that is increasingly visual and interconnected.
Join us as we celebrate the freedom of expression and the role of media in shaping our world. Your insights and creativity are the lenses through which we can envision a more informed and empathetic society.

It’s been two years since I gave a my first With Intention keynote at the Igniting Souls conference. And, exactly one year since “With Intention” was published.
Thank you to everyone who has read the book, sent a text telling me what you thought or commented somewhere. There’s nothing better than hearing the book and message has made an impact.
If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to pick it up. It’s a story-based book and takes you on my journey of being a top performing athlete, sales rep and speaker, to dealing with significant mental health challenges and self-limiting beliefs that led to breakdowns on the field, in the boardroom and on the stage.
I was broken and a perfectionist.
Thankfully, I found my way back through an intentional approach to growing and serving. I invested in learning from others, seeking the help I needed from professional therapists, and working with some amazing coaches.
Along this journey, I decided I couldn’t do it all myself. I finally opened up about my struggles. I heard Brene Brown speak at a conference about the power of vulnerability and it opened my eyes to new possibilities.
Running from the pain of the past wasn’t working.
Most importantly, I put my identity in a higher power. I realized there was a God that loved me and could use my story to help others.
My aim is to be of service to many. If you’re struggling or going through significant pain in life, I’m here to tell you that there’s a way out.
There’s freedom in not running away from your pain. There’s freedom in running towards it and embracing the imperfections that you face.
Have you heard of the hero’s journey? It’s what what many movies are based on. It’s simply this - a character goes on an adventure and they experience extreme adversity. Typically, a guide comes along the way to help them get back on the path. The character goes on this epic journey to find the magic elixir or holy grail - and save the day.
I believe everyone is on a hero’s journey.
And, the beautiful thing in life is that once you realize this and embrace it, something magical happens. The journey no longer becomes about you.
You see, I believe you must become the hero in your own journey so you can become the guide in someone else’s.
When your life transforms from being about you, to being in service to others, you begin to live with Intention.
And, you might just stumble upon a joyful and fulfilling life along the way!!😊
Thank you, Mark Thomas, for capturing this moment. It was a launching point for me to write the book and deliver this message to the world. 🙏
I had the best team and support system. Starting with my family cheering me on - and, the publishing team at Igniting Souls was first class. Especially my good friend, Kary Oberbrunner who was the best developmental editor and guide I could’ve asked for.
Here’s to all of us living and leading With Intention!! 🔥 🎯

We're thrilled to announce the start of an enlightening visual series led by Ntokozo-Dumakude Moya, our published photographer at Flashing Lites Studios. This series takes you behind the scenes of our ambitious project at Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine (Pty) Ltd (SBPM) in Northam, where we ventured to capture the essence of their operations through our lenses.
In the coming month, we will share six videos that delve into the challenges and intricacies of photographing for SBPM's integrated report. This project is not just about capturing images; it's a deep dive into how SBPM embodies the principles of the King IV report on corporate governance, with a strong focus on ESG factors.
Through Ntokozo's reflections, we'll explore how photography can illuminate the complex interplay between a company’s commitment to ethical governance, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. This series promises to shed light on the nuanced ways in which SBPM integrates these critical aspects into its operations, all while adhering to the highest standards of corporate governance as outlined in the King IV report.
Join us on this visual journey as we reveal the stories and insights from this unique project. Your thoughts and engagement are highly valued as we navigate the intersection of visual storytelling, corporate responsibility, and sustainable development together.

For a long time I have been an advocate for 'bringing business to life' - whatever you do. It's so important to celebrate individuality, to express your passion and share your story - 'people buy people' at the end of the day.
You may have already seen my corporate headshots tagged with #BehindTheBusiness. Now, together with Tricia, we are offering more.
Introducing Portraits & Prose: Photography & Writing for Business.
We’re here to celebrate the individual; to champion the unique; add depth to the two-dimensional. In other words, to tell the story ...
We collect moments of meaning and bring them to life in photographs and words: Portraits and Prose.
Imagine a tree without roots ... Behind every business, there is a person; people. Someone with a vision. Maybe you are the business? Invite the world in. Add colour to the grey.

How is creating visual content related to preserving history?
Let's try and understand with an example:
A cityscape captured in 2008 may look vastly different when the same person captures the cityscape in 2024 from the exact same spot.
Doesn't the photograph captured in 2008 become part of preserving the city's geographical history showcasing how the city used to look 16 years earlier?
We are actively capturing history in the making. We all have excellent visual capture devices lying inside our pockets. The question is how many of us think of this while taking photographs with our mobile devices?
Those who find this story relatable may wish to see this small AV I created on the topic of "History in the making". Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.
