Why your presentation's end matters most! Why is it essential to end a presentation on a high note? It's because people remember the emotional peak and end of an experience. This is known as The Peak-End Rule by Daniel Kahneman. For example, recalling the most thrilling ride and the last ride at an amusement park. Focus on making your end memorable by highlighting your most significant points and key takeaways. Or end with something memorable that leaves the audience smiling or laughing. After months of focusing on other issues and life things, I’ve decided it’s time to get back into for stand-up comedy. This week marked a significant milestone in that journey, as I stepped back onto the open mic stage not once, but four times. My next mic will be my 200th (I am gonna stop counting now). Stand up comedy is, without a doubt, the most challenging form of spoken word. It demands creativity, resilience, and the courage to step out of your comfort zone. And that’s what I’ve been doing—writing new jokes, exploring fresh premises, and the development of punchlines that will resonate with audiences (this is not easy). I’m excited the unique challenges performing comedy brings. By no means am I great at this art form…. But my confidence in other aspects of my career helps me get up on stage and try. Comedy is a way to push boundaries, both personally and professionally. While stand up is not the right venure for all- I do suggest you should try new things that are out of your area of expertise and comfort. To my fellow professionals, remember the importance of pursuing passions that challenge and fulfill you. Life is complicated. Hard times come your way. Careers have twists and turns. I spent the last 8 Tuesday evening's learning the basics of Improvisational Comedy aka Improv. Tonight was to be my "graduation performance", unfortunately I couldn't get there as 'life' had other ideas; I had to improvise on my plan and prioritise something in my personal life. I can feeeeel the irony... Improv is great fun! It's helped me build my confidence in thinking on my feet, learn to listen from a point of curiosity, and bring out a fun inner child that used to only reveal itself after two beers (I call him two-pint Mike...). It's great for public speaking, team building, innovation, collaboration, communication... and I'm sure the list keeps going. I can see it being really beneficial for businesses incorporate into workshops, team days, etc... How do you measure if you've given a good talk? This question came up this week, the first session of the new CSz stand-up comedy course I'm delivering. Folks from all walks of life who want to try comedy, learn how to use humour, and get more confident at speaking, and I'd argue stand-up comedy is a great space to learn that. In comedy, we can measure success by the number of laughs (aim for one every 30 seconds, if you're interested), but what about #publicspeaking or #presenting ? My advice is to think about who your audience is. What do they want from you? Specifically? Knowing your audience, particularly the tougher end of your audience - who'll roll their eyes at the slightest hint of waffle - is where you can start to edit what you say for the best results. Ever thought of #standupcomedy training? Is it a tough space? Can be yes. Does it get results? Absolutely.

One of the coolest things I've done in my life is performing stand-up comedy. There is something so scary yet satisfying about performing in front of strangers and testing your idea/observation, which you thought was "funny." It also helped accelerate my skills as a marketer. Humor is an underrated tool that, if implemented correctly, can impact your campaign so loudly and make you stand out from the competition. But only 20% of brands incorporate humor into their campaigns, and just 16% in their sales pitches. Why? The fear of getting it wrong!
