What local issues do the nonprofit partners in Spur Local's 2024 Class work to address? Short answer: Everything! Many of these issues are inter-connected. This year's community-based organizations preserve and elevate stories of local history, equip the next generation to be engaged civic leaders, cultivate vibrant regional food systems, and directly provide services and support across our region. We're a management consulting agency that works with nonprofits and philanthropies. We love doing the inner strategy-building, vision-creating, and infrastructure-refining. To do any of these tasks in a way that centers racial equity, our clients need a deep understanding of the systems that keep us from building equitable systems. Today marks one month since I started with Benefactor Group as a Senior Consultant in the interim services capacity. Here are four reflections I would love to share: 🗓 30 days goes incredibly fast. If you are an organization hiring for a leadership position, allow your new hire to jump in but also give them space to sit with the new. The Bene team has been incredibly thoughtful about this. 🙋♀️ It’s okay to ask for help. I say this from a place of deep compassion for organizational leaders. I have been there. Lean on people to help you. Having a third-party lens is sometimes the hardest to budget for but the best money you will spend. 📚 Knowledge is power. Easier said than done, professional development and keeping your brain sharp is imperative to our sector. “This is how we have always done it” does not work anymore. 🔆 Nonprofits are amazing, and so are the people that work for them. As we begin to dive deep into interim services and what that looks like for nonprofits, we need to take a moment to acknowledge that this is hard work. Sometimes an organization is not the right fit for the people that are hired and sometimes the person isn’t the right fit for the organization. Let’s normalize saying that is okay. If your organization, or someone you know might benefit from interim services­— a focus on expanding the capacity of nonprofit organizations through change and talent management, transition planning, and sustaining development infrastructure—I’d love to learn from your experiences and explore how Benefactor Group could help! 📢 Let's Chat! They are for all of us in #philanthropy to consider - here are some modifications for me, relevant to my work in the Massachusetts Early Childhood Funder Collaborative: * How can we collectively position ourselves and leverage our resources to ensure our work hits its substantial potential? * How do we come together as a collective? What is the cadence? And how do we ask the right questions going forward? * How can we support the table setting? How can we bring chairs - and tables - that we don't occupy, but to allow others immersed in the work to construct a vision and definition of success that we can then support?
