(Post 1 of 4) During my Country visit to Poland, I had the pleasure of holding a Townhall with our Central and Eastern Europe Market Supply team and the Bielsko Distribution Centre. In the meeting, I was asked a great question that made me stop and think. It was something like: ‘what did it take for you to have a successful career across the various Companies that you have worked for and what can we learn from this?’ I thought I would share my answer, drawn from a career at P&G, Unilever, Amazon, Avon, and Coty, across four posts. I hope these reflections offer some help as you think about your own careers, and perhaps they will prompt further searching questions in future meetings. It has always been clear to me that you need to deliver results to be successful. Get stuff done, make a difference, and add value. This was clear from my first days at P&G, where I would update my quarterly action plan regularly and take on new challenges and responsibilities whenever they were offered. I had green scorecards almost all the time but wasn’t getting the promotions that I expected. It showed just how much I had to learn. As our business partners and leaders increasingly ask us to do more and faster, we need people who relish stepping up to the challenge of delivering these results. While the business environment is not going to get easier or simpler, thanks to advances in areas such as machine learning and generative AI, there are huge opportunities for us all to make a difference and rethink how we can deliver better results. More on that in the next post, but in my view, results are only part of the story.   My most significant promotion at P&G came from pure chance. I was on a flight to Cincinnati and met my boss’s boss in the airport. He asked me if I was busy and I told him I wasn’t, thinking nothing of it. Less than 30 minutes after landing, my boss called to let me know that I’d been selected to lead the multi-functional Wella integration into P&G Europe. Such a defining role in my career at P&G came from that chance encounter at the airport. Conversely, as a leadership team at Coty, we are trying to reduce the element of luck required to progress, by bringing teams closer and spending more time getting to know each other. Everyone knows that results matter for every company; so, I encourage you to make sure that decision-makers know what you are delivering. During my time at Clorox, I had the chance to sit down with CCO Troy Datcher, who was the leader of the sales function and brought forward the company’s approach to sports marketing. Sad to hear of his recent passing. He seemed to love giving back, so I wanted to pass along three pieces of advice he shared with me to ensure a long career: 1) Get in the driver seat of your career — don’t stick in the passenger side. That means don’t limit yourself to a job description and find an area where the company could use support and take initiative. If you can show leadership across functions, people will notice. You’ll build a strong reputation outside of your direct colleagues, which is important for advancement. 2) Surround yourself with diversity — if you’re only around friends and like-minded people, you’ll be limited. But find people with different abilities and experiences, and you’ll end up with a great result. 3) Listen first, pitch last. Take notice of the other person or brand’s challenges and think strategically of what could solve those problems.

In all you do, strive for excellence. Mediocrity may have the numbers, excellence will always have more impact. Excellence is an edge that sets you apart. It’s the commitment to going above and beyond, the dedication to continuous improvement, and the relentless pursuit of quality. During my years at Procter & Gamble I was trained to understand that I could either perform below expectations, I could also decide to just meet expectations or I could exceed expectations. I had the power of choice, but the consequences of my choice wasn’t dependent on me. When you strive for excellence, you don't just meet expectations—you exceed them, and this is not only about your work but also has to do with your character, dressing, commitment and all that pertains to you, a decision that will earn you respect, trust, and admiration. As the journey of the second half of the year begins, embrace excellence in all you do. Let it be the standard that guides your actions and the beacon that illuminates your path. Never forget that in a world full of mediocrity, excellence is your unique advantage. As 2023 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on a year that unfolded as a captivating story—a narrative woven with challenges, triumphs, and unexpected twists. This chapter began with the completion of my Sales Trainee program at Reckitt. Though the journey wasn't without its hurdles, the lessons learned in the dynamic world of sales became invaluable. Despite not securing a permanent role, I emerged from this experience with a newfound determination. Life, true to its unpredictable nature, led me to a crossroads. Faced with uncertainty, I made a bold decision to take control of my narrative. A leap of faith led me to apply for the MS in Supply Chain and Retail Management at LUMS, and to my delight, I was welcomed with open arms. For those standing at similar crossroads, unsure of their path, I share this: It's okay not to have it all figured out. Life's journey is a collection of steps, each contributing to our growth. Embracing uncertainty often unveils unexpected and beautiful destinations. Throughout this transformative year, I encountered remarkable individuals who became pillars of support. Some were colleagues at Reckitt; others were inspiring classmates at LUMS. Their wisdom, kindness, and shared experiences illuminated my path and emphasized the importance of a supportive community. In the pursuit of excellence, I've come to acknowledge that perfection is a myth. It's acceptable not to have all the answers or be flawless. What matters is the commitment to continuous improvement and the courage to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Success, I discovered, is not solely measured by external validation. It's about finding fulfillment within, irrespective of acknowledgment from others. Your worth is not determined by accolades but by the authenticity of your journey and the lessons you glean along the way. 📣 Appreciation post alert! This week I’ve received a few messages congratulating me for my first anniversary at Advantage Communications Group, and I must admit this almost caught me by surprise. These have been extremely fast-paced times and I thought that I’d better pause for a minute to look back and pick three company-related highlights worth sharing. 1️⃣ Easiest first day ever. Being back at work with ex-colleagues and at a company that had been a customer of mine for years made things extremely simpler than they could. I am extremely grateful for this reunion with Hugo, Miguel, Orsi, Carla, Brett and Ignacio. 2️⃣ Making an #impact. Having spent most of my working years working on wholesale, the outcome of my work was often blurred. Working now with end users and being attached to their organizations during the lifecycle of their/our services, the results of any efforts are always visible and its contribution is beyond clear. That’s also a valid point for negative impacts, if any! 3️⃣ #Believe in what you are doing. Something that Hugo Holmes and I have talked about a few times: what we do is easy to sell because we genuinely believe it’s the best possible solution for our customers. Intrinsically related to my previous point, we truly see how we are providing the best solutions to our clients on a daily basis, and that’s extremely reassuring. Working on something I deeply believe makes my life way better, I can guarantee you that Long story short, I can only express gratitude for the last 12 months and look forward to the next 12!

🎉 Celebrating One Year with Oerlikon As I reflect on my inaugural year at Oerlikon, I’m filled with gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose. Being affiliated with a global public company and industry frontrunner has been both enlightening and challenging! Reflecting on this year, I am filled with pride. Under the dedicated leadership and collaborative spirit of the team this year, I’ve drived revitalization of the Careers section on our global site, formulated an overarching Social Media strategy and secured its approval, crafted new Social Media Guidelines and supported multiple MarCom and HR activities. This journey has afforded me the joy of engaging with colleagues from various sectors. Key takeaways from my journey thus far: 📌 Team Dynamics: Trust and passion are the cornerstones of a robust team spirit. A reluctance to share innovative ideas can stymie collaboration and foster an environment of stagnation. 📌 Information Management: Feeling overwhelmed is a natural byproduct of information saturation. It’s crucial to streamline thoughts, ensuring that key insights aren’t lost in the deluge. 📌 Communication in a Global Context: English might be the common language in many business settings, but it’s the languages of respect and passion that bridge genuine understanding. Integrating these three can be the solution to multifaceted challenges. 📌 Quality versus Resources: While resource constraints can be a valid concern, they shouldn’t paralyze initiatives. It’s about strategizing effectively and setting realistic timelines to ensure quality isn’t compromised. As I look forward to the chapters ahead, I’m buoyed by a sense of optimism! The journey has only just begun, and I’m eager to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead!
