It’s been on my mind to write about how therapy exactly works. Quite a few clients pose this question before they commence their journey of therapy and ask what exactly happens in the session that would help them get better. So I will be writing a series on how therapy works in different ways and scenarios: How therapy works part # 1 You feel heard! It might sound trivial and a lot of you might feel that we already have friends or family members who listen to us but it is not therapy. Therapeutic listening is, listening to the client as a trained professional. Someone who knows how to listen to your words and also listen to what the client is not saying. It is a non-judgmental way of listening where the therapist would not be giving you examples from his own life or tell you to just move on from the situation. Active listening allows the client to stay with his emotions and experience them without any pressure. It’s like looking in the mirror to fix the way you look.
