The impact of climate change on critical infrastructure and the necessary adaptations to changing environments are topics of utmost importance.
How can we safeguard critical infrastructure in an unpredictable climate? Weather patterns are becoming increasingly erratic, and we need ways and tools to predict and mitigate risks effectively. Our climatic wind tunnel can be one of them. Collaborating with Niemann ENGINEERS and Amprion GmbH, we've recently conducted extensive testing on the impact of ice accumulation on power lines to help inform their future design and maintenance:

Dams are a way of storing water for the dry times that inevitably occur in droughts every few decades The bigger of the dam the more the water you store the more it’s usable for various things in agriculture Just giving life to human beings over a longer period of time because even after droughts it rains again always They should be more dams built not less
Guess which European nation has the highest number of Dam removals? “Hundreds of years ago, communities built dams recognizing the very real threat of floods to life and livelihood. These structures became a testament to human ingenuity and resilience. Fast forward to today, and in the name of environmentalism, we're tearing down these barriers—239 removed in Europe alone in 2021—only to blame climate change when floods devastate towns. This is insanity. We've forgotten the lessons of the past, dismantling protections that safeguarded generations and then pointing fingers at climate when nature inevitably takes its course.” - Matthew Wielicki

"Green infrastructure and other stormwater management practices in the U.S. are typically designed to detain, retain or filter only the first 1 to 2 inches of runoff. Individually, they can’t capture all the runoff generated during larger storms." Drexel professor Franco Montalto, PhD, writes in 'The Conversation' how communities can work together to make themselves into "sponge cities," capable of soaking up the heavier stormwater that come with climate change. Transform is committed to stopping highway expansion. In a time of extreme climate crisis, we can’t afford to build infrastructure that bakes in decades of further warming and undercuts our public and active transportation investments. Unfortunately, Caltrans District 4 and the Contra Costa Transportation Authority are planning to do just that on Interstate 680. https://lnkd.in/gfv9pb2k #HighwayExpansion #ClimateCrisis #TransportationJustice #PublicTransportation #BayArea
