Muni riders’ satisfaction in 2023 was its highest in more than 20 years, according to a survey released earlier this week.

As our crews struggled to deal with Muni’s worst-ever economic crisis, they were forced to get creative. Strapped for resources, our planners and engineers made our services more efficient through a dramatic expansion of transit-only lanes and signal priority. Knowing our customers needed reliability during the worst of COVID, our ops teams switched from schedules to headway management on all our main lines, eliminating most bus “bunching.” Our vehicle and trackway maintenance crews have been busy addressing decades of deferred maintenance -- far more than I ever thought possible – in part through our quarterly “Fix-It! Weeks” in which we bustitute or reroute major services to give our maintenance crews the time they need to upgrade our ageing infrastructure. We transitioned our COVID-era anti-microbial efforts into general cleanliness teams, making our vehicles and stations shine. De-escalation training across all our public-facing workers, better partnerships with Police and the DA, and better use of our high-resolution cameras throughout the system cut reported crime on Muni by 48% compared to pre-COVID. Our formula: Make Muni’s main lines fast, frequent, reliable, clean and safe. As an exec, I spend my days working to clear a path so my incredible staff can do their work to solve the problems we face. I also field a lot of complaints as we make hard choices to serve the public in a time of declining resources. So I join my staff in being startled by the results of our latest annual customer survey. Our customers really appreciate the work our crews have been doing. For those of us in public service, we could not wish for a higher honor. https://lnkd.in/dVUXzhK8

Drivers here is updated information for which routes you can take in and out of Baltimore. Expect Longer commutes and trip plan to make sure that you have everything covered. -Expect a longer commute on Interstate 695 until further notice. -The I-695 outer loop has shifted to Exit 1/Quarantine Road (past the Curtis Creek drawbridge) to allow for “enhanced local traffic access.” -The I-695 inner loop remains closed at Peninsula Expressway, and the ramp at state Highway 157 to the inner loop will be closed. -Drivers should use Interstate 95 (Fort McHenry Tunnel) or Interstate 895 (Baltimore Harbor Tunnel) for north-south routes. -Commercial vehicles carrying materials that are prohibited in the tunnel crossings, including recreation vehicles carrying propane, should plan on using I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) between Essex and Glen Burnie. (This route will add significant driving time.) #truckernews #truckerlife #truckingindustry

Pioneer Transport, Terminal Owner | For Truckers by Truckers, Fdr & Exec. Dir. | Berry-Good Trucking co. LLC, O/O | U-Haul Dealer | Elections Specialist Officer
What is the status of the motor carrier community since the influx of cargo, stemming from the FS Key bridge catastrophe? My perspective follows: The Port of Virginia has moved swiftly to scale up labor which has allowed for expanded gate hours. The biggest challenge is reservation capacity to mitigate truck volumes to accommodate Virginia port drivers, as well as Baltimore port drivers. Most of the cargo freight is directed to VIG (Virginia International Gateway), in part to the partial reconstruction of North NIT (Norfolk International Terminal) transfer zone. How much additional space can VIG absorb is yet to be determined. We are observing the situation unfold in real-time and monitoring the operations. Motor Carriers' biggest concerns are the available locations to store the containers once out gated, and most of all, driver capacity after low drayage rates has scared-off most driver capacity.

Good to see this new report issued today by TRB and their acknowledgement of many contributors including Andrew Burbridge from #TMR and myself. As noted in the report, the United States faces a road-safety crisis. The number of fatal crashes per mile traveled has been climbing for the past decade. The fastest growing type of crash is those involving vulnerable road users—pedestrians, bicyclists, and others who share the roads with motor vehicles. A reversal of these trends will not only require high-quality, evidence-based safety research but also processes for ensuring that the results are implemented in the field. The authors make a series of recommendations to the U.S. Department of Transportation, including calling for the need to prioritize and align national road safety research across federal agencies and state departments of transportation. Attention #Texas Drivers!!! Attention all #Austin residents and visitors! One of the most #dangerous exits in #Austin, #Texas is at Ben White and 183 North. This poorly designed exit has at least 3 accidents and #wrecks PER DAY. The #worst part? There is NO STREET LAMP or light to #warn drivers coming off a 70 mph road into a 20 degree turn at night. Texas Department of Transportation and Texas Department of Public Safety , check out the attached videos taken today, within hours of each other, as a reference and concern for all folks on the road here. It's time to #demand safer designs and better #infrastructure to minimize fatalities, threats to our finances, vehicle liabilities, and fatalities of loved ones. Stay #safe on the roads! The force of a train hitting your car equals the force of your car crushing a soda can. A typical freight train can take more than a mile to stop, even when emergency brakes are applied. It's important that families know the meanings of common signage found near railroad crossings. Does your family know these four common signs and signals they might encounter near railroad crossings? TRAFFIC ALERT - WESTFIELD/DUNKIRK - I-90 EAST CLOSURE All eastbound lanes of the NYS Thruway (I-90) from exit 60 (Westfield) to exit 59 (Dunkirk) will temporarily shut down to traffic beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 5, through 7 a.m. Saturday, April 6. The temporary closure is to allow crews to safely remove a severely damaged portion of the North Road overpass over the Thruway at milepost 473.78 in Chautauqua County. The overpass has been subject to at least three bridge strikes by overheight trucks since the beginning of the year. Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 5, all eastbound traffic traveling on I-90 will be diverted off of the highway at exit 60 (Westfield). Motorists should follow Emergency Detour Route “D” which will direct traffic to NY Route 394 east, to US-20 east, to Route 60 north, and reentering the Thruway at exit 59 (Dunkirk). The length of the detour is approximately 18 miles. The closure is expected to be in place for approximately 14 hours. I-90 west will remain open throughout the operation. Do we do enough to get THEIR message out? Troopers in particular, deserve a safe zone to perform their duties. Just like highway workers, tow truck operators, and even motorists on the shoulder dealing with their issues… But the Troopers…. WE GOTTA MOVE OVER…. If we are utilizing our Smith System Keys, this is a non-issue. We see them in time, we have time to react and move over… or slow down… Not every state has a MOVE OVER law… As professional drivers, this is an example of “we do it because we know it’s right, not because it’s a law, rule, or regulation” We Move Over…. Do you?
