An NPR article was published last week to shed light on the stress that can occur for kids visiting a healthcare institution. ChildKind Advisory Board member Dr. Stefan Friedrichsdorf outlines the importance of integrating pain management strategies by using these simple steps that clinicians and parents can follow to improve a child's hospital experience: - Apply numbing cream, an over-the-counter lidocaine, 30 minutes before a shot. - Breastfeed babies or give them a pacifier dipped in sugar water, to comfort them while getting a shot. - Use distractions, like teddy bears, pinwheels, or bubbles, to divert attention away from the needle. - No more pinning kids down on an exam table. Parents should hold children in their laps instead. Read the entire article here: https://lnkd.in/gNzmcw_8

Aileen Padilla, DO found her practice started to grow when patients shared their Mild experiences with one another: “Their neighbors see them walking around, and notice that hey, they’re standing up straighter. It seems like they’re going for a walk every day. And then they ask them, ‘well, what did you do?’” To explore how Mild for #LSS can help grow and differentiate your practice, go to https://lnkd.in/gNMQ_m5X #ChronicLowBackPain #LookForTheLigament #MildProcedure #VertosMedical #PainMedicine #LSS #ELEVATEwithmild

After more than a decade working as a dental hygienist, alum Katie Conklin, RDH, MS, MPH (SPH’23) pivoted to public health in the hopes of expanding access to pediatric oral health care. "There is so much we can do with policy, [such as] advocating for those who are not receiving services and giving a voice to the importance of oral health. Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease across the world, but it is overlooked, so we are trying to shift this mindset to one of prevention."
