Today is National Choking Awareness Day! Join us in raising awareness of choking prevention, how to deal with a choking emergency, and save a life! Always prepare children's food into manageable pieces, always supervise young children when they are eating, never let a child eat in their car seat, always cut grapes, blueberries, sausages/hot dogs into small pieces/quarters. Make sure to follow SALT food plans for elderly people who have dysphagia, and neurological disorders. Keep small toys out of reach of young children. Be prepared to help save a life, take an accredited first aid course and have a LifeVac® on hand when first aid fails or cannot be performed. Did you know choking can also lead to cardiac arrest? So not only are you reducing choking related deaths, but also reducing the amount of deaths due to cardiac arrest. To date we have helped save 1,987 lives in a choking emergency, of which 1,271 have been children. Share this post and help save another life! #LifeVac #bechokeaware #nationalchokingawarenessday #choking #ChokingAwareness #ChokingPrevention #cardiacarrest #parenting #parents #children #family #elderly #ElderlyCare #schools #carehome www.lifevac.uk

Children can often be prone to bumps, scrapes, bruises, and falls as they explore the world around them. However, they can also have a harder time regulating their emotions and using their words to communicate what is wrong when they are injured, making it more difficult for the medical provider or caregiver to help. Falls are the leading cause of ER visits in infants. But how to prevent them often isn’t discussed with new parents. According to the CDC, pediatric falls result in about 8,000 emergency room visits every day and account for 50% of nonfatal injuries in infants. All infants are at risk for falls, and the number one risk factor is a tired parent—and what new parent isn’t exhausted all the time? The good news is that infant falls are preventable. Watch and share this video, produced in collaboration with UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, to understand the risks and learn how to protect against them: https://lnkd.in/eKn8SibG
