Canadian Minister of Federal Energy and Natural Resource Jonathan Wilkinson is aiming to develop systems to track the chain of custody of moving critical minerals through all points in the supply-chain. This initiative will hopefully help provide transparency and encourage a domestic #lithium #supplychain and help increase #energysecurity. Canada is rich in critical minerals needed for the growing demand in renewable energies, such as lithium. Unless we increase domestic lithium refining capacity, lithium will continue to be shipped overseas for refining, adding to bottlenecks, stress, instability and carbon footprint in the battery value chain. https://lnkd.in/gKg98QxW

Interesting thoughts on RRR- the three R's of waste management in energy sector: Boosting Energy Security Requires Investing in the Entire Minerals Supply Chain: Repurposing Oil and Gas Wells -Creative approach on other options available to bolster the U.S. critical minerals supply chain. One of these is through techniques to evolve production of lithium via injection wells into oil and gas production zones. We’ve already seen some major oil and gas producers announce plans to do this. On average, it only takes about five years to permit an injection well, a far shorter time frame than what is usually required to open a new lithium mine (~20 years). https://lnkd.in/eBVy-EpY

"As nations triple #renewable #energy capacity and double the rate of energy-efficiency improvements, the #demand for #copper—a critical material in #renewable #technologies due to its high conductivity—is expected to rise. The International Copper Association (#ICA) expects copper demand to double by 2050, largely driven by this #green #transition. These efforts contribute to the larger structural shift toward #sustainable development, wherein copper serves an often unacknowledged but essential role as a building block for a greener future." (copperalliance.org). Our Lomero and Aguablanca Projects in Spain present a compelling investment opportunity poised to capitalize on the anticipated surge in demand for critical minerals. These projects are strategically positioned to yield essential minerals crucial for advancing the green transition, including copper. Explore further details at denariusmetals.com. The demand for #CriticalMinerals and their importance to the #CleanEnergy drive across the world is indisputable, but a lack of reliable information and data sharing from miners and the countries that produce – in particular – #lithium, #cobalt and #nickel, have raised concerns, reports Yunus Kemp, Content Specialist, ESI Africa. During last September’s International Energy Agency (IEA) (IEA) Summit on Critical Minerals and Clean Energy, one key takeaway was the need to enhance the availability of reliable information. #Issue204 https://lnkd.in/dRFz2ka2

Senior Advisor to Deputy Assistant Secretary Operations, Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, U.S. Department of Energy (formerly Accenture's Global Energy Transition Services Lead)
Really exciting to see the opportunity to develop critical minerals from our energy wastes. Local, smaller volumes and distributed... might seem hard but let's see what else is smaller, distributed, needed further technology development... solar, unconventional oil and gas (!). Also, these supply chains get to start with a blank piece of paper, are configurable, and can be developed more sustainably than the current critical mineral supply chains (Sung Choi) “By working together to redevelop Appalachia, a region that is well positioned to produce critical minerals and materials from coal and energy and mining waste streams, we can meet substantial demand—perhaps as much as 50 percent of rare earth element demand, for example—and produce critical materials much faster than the time it takes to begin production from a new mine, which is often more than a decade,” Marianne Walck.., Director NETL See the blog on the Appalachia Critical Minerals Deploy Dialogue Ryan PeayGrant BromhalSusan KishIan Hamos https://lnkd.in/gbqmtYd4
