When women have more money, the world literally becomes a better place. Still feeling very inspired by last week's event from Give A Sh*t and speakers Lara Sheldrake, Tamu T. and Sara Dalrymple. The discussion was centred around women having more visibility, getting comfortable with making money and, as a result, having more of an impact in the world. When women have more money, they donate more into local communities. They are more likely to focus on investments that generate positive social and environmental impact. They have more control over their lives and choices. Only good things happen. And the more we see women selling, the more we normalise women making money. Thank you to Lara Sheldrake for creating such an important community. I often feel uncomfortable with 'business as usual' when there is so much conflict and violence going on in the world. A community like this provides an important reminder that we can’t separate ourselves from the reality of what’s going on because, if we do, we become numb to it. It’s possible to make a profit AND have a positive impact on the world. So lets continue to Give A Sh*t 🚀

Trusting women is at the very core of Uplift’s mission - to transform the lives of women in crisis. It's part of the trust-based philanthropy we care so deeply about. In order to provide agile, direct financial assistance, it is vital that we trust the women we are serving. In 2023, Uplift supported 202 women and children. This would not be possible without trust. Having an innate trust in our grant applicants allows us to move quickly in their moment of need. Instead of getting bogged down with bureaucracy or stipulating that Uplift funds can only be used in specific ways, we place dollars into the hands of women, immediately. Because we believe—we know—that when women feel encouraged and empowered, they are able to lift themselves out of crisis. Many nonprofits are focused on improving the lives of women, children, and other underserved groups. For me, this highlights the critical need for women to be present at the decision-making table. Equally, having a board that includes individuals from the communities the organization serves can be a powerful force for change. I work with nonprofits of all shapes and sizes, and I truly believe we should concentrate on fostering collaboration and inclusivity to drive real progress. Today, When She Thrives office is closed to stand in solidarity with Women and Girls Foundation and Paid Leave for All for A Day Without Women. Before I made the decision to take this stand, I thought long and hard about what #adaywithoutwomen really means, specifically for the nonprofit sector. Women make up more than half the CEO’s of nonprofits with budgets under 1 million dollars. This means that women are the ones leading organizations that are constantly seeking funding to stay afloat, to ensure the impactful and transofmationational work we do in this world doesn’t end. This means women are the ones making sure, by any means necessary that funders are told AGAIN and AGAIN how important our work is, even when the importance was acknowledged just a year before. This means when women take a day off to take a stand we are challenged by the need to show up for the individuals and families and communities we serve may not get what they need, because we’re trying to get WHAT WE NEED so that we can get them what they need. This means even when we take a stand, our minds are still running marathons with thoughts about how to keep going, keep growing, keep surviving until we’re thriving. This means, even whe we choose to take a stand, we’re tired and want to sit. This means, even though we’re passionate and invested in the work we do, we’re often struggling with crippling anxiety, stress and overwhelm. This means, the system remains broken. This means today, AND EVERY DAY we take a stand to continue to hold each other up. #empoweringwomen #womenleaders #nonprofitleadership
