Today, I had the pleasure of attending CIMT’s (Center for Innovative Medical Technology) anniversary conference, celebrating 10 years of innovation in healthcare. 🎉 The conference kicked off with an honest reflection on three 'disappointments' and three 'successes' from the past decade – a fascinating status report. ☀️⛈️ It was exciting to hear about six projects connected to CIMT, which led to two panel discussions on study designs, timelines, patient perspectives, and types of evidence. The discussions centered around how we should measure successes and disappointments: Should we focus on clinical or organizational outcomes to assess the value of technological solutions? These debates provided valuable reflections and exchanges of experience.🌈 The conference concluded with a thought-provoking panel debate on the future of healthcare innovation and research in digital health solutions, as well as what CIMT should focus on in the next 10 years. Here are some of the highlights I noted: More focus on the implementation phase right from the start of developing technological solutions. Increased emphasis on patient and citizen involvement. Greater focus on cross-sector collaboration, including curiosity about what happens across the network when changing a single practice. Such changes often impact more than just the immediate area and lead to shifts in roles for all parties, necessitating increased transparency between regions and municipalities. Attention to the impact on relatives, especially as patients are treated more in their own homes. These insights will directly inform my own project, where I’m using Participatory Design to improve the day surgery experience for breast cancer patients and their relatives. The discussions have provided new perspectives that I look forward to integrating into my research. 💡 #CIMT #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth #Research #ParticipatoryDesign —————————————————————-

What a great start to 2024! ThinkSono's technology will now be trialled in primary care in the UK to improve the DVT clinical pathway. This work is led by Kerstin Nothnagel, who has done an amazing job at setting up the entire study. The study aims to recruit up to 500 suspected DVT patients across several sites in Bristol and surrounding areas. This work will be done in collaboration with University of Bristol, GP CARE UK LIMITED and Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB. This is the first study of its kind that will trial how Ultrasound AI technology can improve the existing DVT primary care clinical pathway and enable patients to be scanned in the community vs in hospitals. As we build up the clinical evidence, this will pave the way to transform the management of DVT patients in the UK and worldwide. To give a sense of why this matters, frequently many patients (e.g in nursing homes) can't access DVT diagnostics due to a lack of staff, mobility issues or long travel distances. These are high risk populations and hence require careful attention to mitigate DVT risk. Thanks to all healthcare staff involved who are now making DVT detection with AI a reality. Another thanks to Clarius Mobile Health for being a huge supporter of ThinkSono. A special thanks to Sven Mischkewitz and of course Sören Tietböhl who have built the smoothest and most sophisticated Ultrasound AI technology on the planet. Imagine a healthcare revolution that begins at the grassroots level! Today, we want to shed light on why Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machines are the need of the hour in our primary healthcare systems. 1. Advanced Screening Option: With OCT technology, we usher in a new era of advanced screening capabilities. The non-invasive nature of OCT scans allows for early detection of various eye conditions, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, enabling proactive intervention. Early diagnosis can significantly enhance treatment outcomes, making OCT a game-changer in preventive healthcare. 2. Enhanced Accessibility for All: Accessibility to healthcare services is a fundamental right. OCT machines bring diagnostic capabilities closer to the primary population, eliminating barriers to timely eye care. By integrating OCT into primary healthcare centers, we ensure that individuals, regardless of their geographical location, socio-economic status, or mobility constraints, can benefit from high-quality eye screenings. 3. Reducing False Negatives at Secondary Centers: The domino effect of false negatives can be mitigated with the integration of OCT in primary healthcare. By catching potential issues early on, we reduce the number of cases that progress to secondary centers with misleading initial results. This not only enhances the accuracy of diagnoses but also streamlines the healthcare system by preventing unnecessary referrals and treatments. 4. Empowering Primary Care Physicians: OCT technology empowers primary care physicians with a valuable tool for comprehensive patient assessments. This not only improves the accuracy of diagnoses but also fosters a collaborative healthcare environment where primary care providers play a pivotal role in preventive measures and early intervention. 5. Cost-effective and Efficient: Integrating OCT into primary healthcare systems can be a cost-effective solution in the long run. By addressing eye health issues at the onset, we minimize the economic burden associated with advanced-stage treatments. This efficiency benefits both healthcare providers and patients alike. Let's rally for the global adoption of OCT machines in primary healthcare, ensuring a healthier and fairer future for all. Together, we can significantly improve global eye health by integrating this cutting-edge technology into accessible and comprehensive healthcare systems! #oct #retina #eyes #eyesight #imagingsolutions #healthcare #primaryhealthcare #primarycare #accessibility #portability #scanning #betterfuture

For our latest interview, we sat down with Kalle Conneryd Lundgren, chief operating officer at Livi UK (known as Kry in Sweden and Norway). Kalle discussed the health tech provider’s offering, work in the UK and beyond, and aspirations for the future. "We have proven that digital can enable better access. But now we want to go deeper. We don’t believe there is such a thing as digital or physical healthcare; it’s just healthcare. In the future, all healthcare journeys, for every patient, will have digital components and physical components. Digital when needed and physical when necessary. A combined digital-physical healthcare model is the solution to the challenges of healthcare systems and how they can improve efficiency and lower costs of care." An eye doctor in a remote region of Norway is using a connected care solution made possible by us to change the lives of diabetic patients. From diagnosis to vision preservation, Alexander Skau is using ZEISS retinal cameras and a cloud solution to transport data instead of having patients travel to the nearest clinic for medical care. At the heart of this transformative journey, Alexander is reshaping the dynamics of healthcare with us at ZEISS, emphasizing not just the numbers, but the tangible impact on individuals and their ability to have more control over their healthcare. Currently, there are five locations where the facility has been placed. With us, however, Alexander’s goal is to help establish the technology to the point where 320,000 diabetics throughout Norway will have access to eye exams. Each success story adds to the positive impact we’re having on healthcare accessibility. Join us in witnessing the positive changes that we’re enabling in connected care – one patient at a time: https://lnkd.in/eBP-5Df6 Carl Zeiss Meditec AG Retscreen AS #ZEISS #ConnectedCare #HealthcareInnovation #Innovation #Health #Diabetes
