Doncaster Chamber is currently working with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, our neighbouring Chambers and research partners Kada Research Limited to understand some of the barriers businesses face when it comes to employing young people and especially those that are not currently in employment, education or training (NEETs). As part of our recent Local Skills Improvement Plan consultation we heard how liberally and laterally employers are thinking about where talent comes from and we know just how passionate a huge number of our members are about supporting young people and nurturing talent. Consequently, as part of our research, we would like to identify some examples of exemplar practice from around the region when it comes to giving NEETs opportunities and developing young talent. If you could spare the time to talk to our research partners about what you do and how it might be replicated in other businesses please reply to this post and we will get in touch.
If this is piquing your interest, we would also like to invite you to participate in two other things.
Firstly, we are contributing to the British Chambers of Commerce’s important Workplace Equity Commission via the indomitable Layla Young who is one of the commissioners and who did such a brilliant job of taking fear and jargon out of conversations about equity at our recent Women In Business Conference. To inform Layla’s contributions and sense check some emerging thinking, we are hosting a roundtable at Harrison College on 27th February; if you are interested in this important topic, please book on here: https://lnkd.in/ea5j3Jd5.
Secondly, Opportunities Doncaster Live is returning on 7th March. We will be welcoming thousands of young people to Doncaster Racecourse in a bid to connect hidden talent with hidden careers here in Doncaster and to demonstrate to learners that they do not have to leave to achieve. Many businesses have fed back that the event provides a great opportunity to develop a pipeline of talent into their organisation and that very much enjoy the opportunity to engage with young people that are curious about their sector. If you have not already booked to exhibit at the event, there is still an opportunity to do so. Please visit: https://lnkd.in/evuGXbyd to find out more.
