Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport (FRA), is taking significant steps towards modernizing its ground power supply system. Fraport’s Climate Protection Strategy In line with the company’s climate protection strategy, Fraport aims to eliminate all diesel-powered units supplying electricity to parked aircraft by 2040. This initiative underscores Fraport’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices within the aviation industry. Transition to Electric Ground Power Units (GPUs) As part of the modernization efforts, Fraport is prioritizing the installation of ground power connections at more aircraft parking positions. These connections will facilitate the use of electric ground power units (e-GPUs) instead of traditional diesel-powered units. By transitioning to e-GPUs, Fraport aims to minimize emissions and enhance the environmental sustainability of its operations. 🛫🔌 #FrankfurtAirport #ElectricPowerSupply #Sustainability #AeroBernie https://lnkd.in/dzwAUVAd

More strong evidence that aligns with what airport executives at AAAE told AlphaStruxure in the report we published last month, and what we are hearing from #airport customers. Scaling clean, resilient energy infrastructure for airports needs to start now to meet increased loads across the airport footprint and support #decarbonization. Great work by Jacobs and Enterprise Mobility in keeping the spotlight on this topic. #aviation #resilience #energytransition #sustainability #climateaction

A new study by Jacobs reveals that airport ecosystems that are electrifying will require nearly five times more power than their current peak demand by 2050. Meeting these needs will take significant new and upgraded power infrastructure, which requires substantial investment. With large-scale infrastructure projects taking around seven years on average to complete, now is the time to begin. Learn more about how to start from Steve Pelham and Graeme Cooper MBA FEI. #airports #energytransition #electrification #infrastructureprojects #netzerotransition #netzero2050 #ourjacobs Link to the study: https://lnkd.in/egvDZwQu

This may be a terrible idea, but that rarely stops me from exploring. Are there any engineers willing to talk me out of it? Are there any airports ready to try? Airports continually embrace new technology to monitor and control air traffic, potentially rendering traditional control towers obsolete. This transition raises questions about the future of these iconic structures. As airports transition to intermittent renewable energy sources, they encounter an increased need for energy storage. The unique structural characteristics of control towers make them suitable candidates for gravity batteries. This synergetic evolution would be symbolic of an airport’s transition to sustainable energy by preserving the iconic structure for renewable energy infrastructure. #aviation #airport
