Last year marked the beginning of our Apollo's Aid Refugee Program, a beacon of hope for displaced families and their furry companions. Thanks to our generous donors, we ensure they can stay together by providing financial aid and resources, making heartwarming reunions possible. Recently, our efforts enabled a beautiful reunion between Amira, a Sudanese refugee, and her cherished German Shepherd, Tonja. Witnessing Amira's reunion with Tonja fills our hearts with joy, reminding us of the profound impact of our collective efforts. Thank you for being a vital part of our journey and for making moments of love and reunion possible. #animalwelfare #refugee #nonprofit

I do all three. For years & years & years. So, a rethink on how best to manage and prevent this form of hatred that is racism is required from everyone concerned. Let's think practically. Think about young people in schools being bullied? #racism We need a plan, developed with and by families in education who experience racism, to change our way of thinking and dealing with racism, and protecting young people suffering. What now United Nations ? What next? Ignore me? Then you will need to join the queue. One says the right thing, everyone gets onboard to love and support, one does the right thing, everyone stands and stares, wondering what? the #### is one doing... Because if everyone was doing the right thing, there would be no wrongdoing. 'Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there' - Rumi

The Prime Legacy of Global PowerHouse | The FACE • United Nations | UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Racism, a pervasive and destructive force in society, has far-reaching implications that extend beyond individual interactions to shape the very fabric of communities and nations. This insidious phenomenon not only poisons relationships and erodes social cohesion but also inflicts profound and lasting damage on the growth and progress of society as a whole. The imperatives catastrophe of racism manifests in numerous ways, hindering the development of a truly inclusive and equitable society and thwarting the realization of the full potential of individuals, economies, and talents. At its core, racism undermines the fundamental principles of equality and justice, creating barriers that impede the advancement of marginalized groups and perpetuate systemic inequalities. The long-term consequences of racism reverberate across generations, stifling the growth of society by limiting access to opportunities and resources for those affected. Individuals who face discrimination based on their race or ethnicity are often denied the chance to fully harness their talents and contribute meaningfully to their communities, resulting in a loss of diverse perspectives, innovation, and creativity that are essential for progress. In this context, the detrimental impact of racism on society, economy, and individual talents becomes apparent, as it hampers the collective growth and prosperity of nations. By perpetuating divisions, fostering prejudice, and obstructing social mobility, racism acts as a formidable obstacle to unity, progress, and development. To combat the damaging effects of racism and unlock the full potential of society, it is essential to address its root causes, promote inclusivity and diversity, and advocate for justice and equality for all individuals. Only by confronting racism head-on and embracing the principles of respect, understanding, and acceptance can we pave the way for a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to a more harmonious and prosperous society.

We, as a #society, must uphold the universal human rights of all members of society regardless of their #ethnicity. Race is a construct for #discrimination created to serve those who use it as a tool to commit atrocities against other human beings and to justify their criminal acts. The people of this world must transform their values to align with the highest standard of protecting human rights. Applying the rule of law and justice ⚖️ should mean that a #crime is punishable regardless of ethnicity. To the people of the United Kingdom (#UK) 🇬🇧, European Union 🇪🇺, and the United States 🇺🇸, you must resist the uprising of #racism in your civilized world, lest you transform into a #barbaric social order. Anywhere on this earth where human rights are being violated, we must resist to elevate perpetrators to their desired thrones of injustice.

The issue of racism and sexism is deeply rooted in systemic inequalities. Some individuals in certain countries are born with significant advantages simply because of their skin color or gender. Despite starting with more opportunities, when they encounter someone from a disadvantaged background who is more intelligent, talented, and successful, their reaction is often one of hostility. This behavior is not just unethical—it's a crime, and the consequences should be more severe. We must continue to push for stronger measures to address and penalize such actions. #EqualityForAll #EndRacism #EndSexism #EqualOpportunities #DiversityAndInclusion #HumanRights #JusticeForAll 💪🌍✊

Hope and Fear—they coexist in Iraq, but resilience prevails. 🌱 Reflecting on Bettina I.'s recent visit to Iraq, where for the past 10 years, Welthungerhilfe has been supporting IDPs, refugees, and host communities with humanitarian assistance and reconstruction, she was impressed by the passion to make a change. 🇮🇶 During her visit, Bettina met with partners, donors, and colleagues. Project participants shared their daily struggles and hopes for a better future, and she witnessed both the challenges and the strength within these communities. In Sinuni, Sinjar, Bettina experienced the duality of hope and fear first hand. The returnees she met from the IDP camps still carry the burden of fear and uncertainty, their futures overshadowed by the trauma of displacement. In contrast, the energy and optimism of the community were palpable at the recent night bazaar. Here, entrepreneurs were building their businesses with passion, their creativity and determination reflecting a future-driven spirit. The positive energy of the bazaar highlighted the resilience of the community. ✨ Iraq continues to struggle with the scars of war, terrorism and the consequences of the climate crisis. Yet Bettina has been struck by how hope continues to thrive alongside fear. It is in their perseverance that our role becomes clear—to support and nurture this resilience. 💚 The progress of our local programs is inspiring. Want to learn more about how we're working in Iraq? What: Learn about the difficult choices refugees face when forced to flee their homes. While it is impossible to fully comprehend what it is like to be forced from your home and live as a refugee, this simulation will provide an opportunity to raise awareness by pausing and experiencing the frustrations, disappointments and hopes that refugees around the world face. Both youth and adults will gain new insights into the difficult decisions refugees face each day. Who: If you ever engage with refugees or immigrants at His Hands and desire to better understand their perspective, please consider attending this event! When: Tuesday, April 2, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm Where: Connections Cafe, 8300 C Avenue Marion, IA 52302 Cost: This is a free event, however, St. Mark’s asks that each participant bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Catherine McAuley Center. What: Our clinic has experienced a growing desire from patients to learn more about Jesus. We’ve offered prayer, Bibles, devotionals, and church options [if they do not have a church home] for years. We haven’t, however, consistently engaged with patients at a deeper level. This session will equip attendees with (1) questions to uncover any individual’s understanding of The Gospel, (2) basic discussion paths, and then (3) how to point or invite the individual to one of our church partners for full, and hopefully ongoing, engagement. Who: Anyone who desires to better equip themselves to share The Gospel with a stranger, neighbor, or friend! When: Thursday, April 18th, from 2:30 to 4:15pm Where: Downtown Cedar Rapids location TBD Cost: This is a free event, however, donations to purchase Bibles and devotional materials in additional languages will be accepted. Great to hear. With all the talk about #climateadaptation, there is probably nothing as important than ensuring that kids (incl. #refugees), and particualry girls, can access quality education. Given the global good that countries like Mauritania provide in hosting refugees, while also being impacted by the #climatecrisis, they should be prioritized for #climatefunding.
What a relief 😅 to see kids of Mbera refugee camp back to school this week. We had a close call with a dip in funds. Thanks to our donors & the Gov of Mauritania 🇲🇷, school doors opened & classes began today. Offer your support so these kids can make it to graduation day! 🙏
