Medical Affairs Recruiter and Coach | Former MSL | PharmD | Helping you find excellence in your career AND your life |
A hiring manager I talked to late yesterday afternoon was stressed! She is under pressure to fill 3 remaining MSL roles on her team BUT she also has a POA in early February and a Virtual Advisory Board in two weeks. If you are a hiring manager in January 2024, you can probably relate to her. Here are the main concerns she told me she has with MSL candidates: 1) Will the candidate be willing to travel (even though they say they are)? 2) Will the candidate TRULY connect with KOLs and share the "so what" and not just data dump? 3) Will they bring a balance to the team AND get along with the other team members? 4) Will they keep up with administrative tasks like expense reports so that they don't have to be 'nagged'? 5) Will they be able to meet the demands of their cross-functional partners? It's a lot. The Carolan Group understands these challenges. We connect hiring managers with the RIGHT talent so that they can build and maintain thriving teams (and ultimately help patients). If you are looking to hire the RIGHT people quickly, please send me a DM on LinkedIn or an email to sarah@carolangroup.com. You can share what you are looking for and your specific hiring situation via a short phone call. I HATE wasting time - let's get started! #pharma #pharmaceutical #pharmajobs #biotech #recruiter #pharmaceuticalindustry #medicalaffairs #medicalscienceliaison

🔍 Finding the right talent in clinical operations is more than a checkbox exercise - it's about shaping the future of healthcare. As Clinical Operations Directors, we're not just filling positions; we're building teams that will drive innovation and deliver life-changing treatments across Europe. 🌍 The European clinical landscape is diverse, with each country presenting unique challenges in staffing. From regulatory complexities to skill shortages, how do you navigate these waters to ensure your team is robust and ready to meet the demands of tomorrow's clinical trials? 💡 I've seen firsthand the transformative power of a strategically composed team. It's not just about the number of hands, but the depth of expertise and the drive to excel. Here are a few questions I ponder: 1️⃣ How do you balance the need for local knowledge with the benefits of a diverse, international team? 2️⃣ In a rapidly evolving field, what strategies do you employ to keep your team's skills sharp and up-to-date? 3️⃣ With the rise of remote trials, what are the key competencies you now look for in new hires? 🤝 Collaboration is key. I'd love to hear your thoughts and strategies. How are you tackling the staffing puzzle in your corner of Europe? #ClinicalOperations #StaffingSolutions #FutureOfHealthcare #Science #HRS

Medical Science Liaison | Medical Affairs | Medico Marketing | KOL management | Strategic communication | Digital health | Ex- Entrepreneur
Skills for the MSL/RMA role. Before applying for a role, it's a great idea to understand what sort of #skills are important for you to be the best person for the role. Strategic communication: You have the same data but the doctor in front of you is different. Research a little bit about your KOL and you'll get the key to break the ice and the correct way to share the data. For ex: I was launching a new product. I knew this doctor A is passionate about avoiding hypoglycemia at all costs. I kicked off the discussion with the discussion of hypoglycemia instead of my usual efficacy. Interpersonal relationships: You will not be working alone. It always pays to have a great relationship with the #sales and #marketing team. Curiosity: #Medicine is not for the apathetic. This role requires even more of it. You have to be interested in the therapy area. Not okay with travel: Travel frequency depends on the organisation in question but on an average, outstation travel is usually not more than 5-6 days a month. Within the headquarters movement would be much more though. If you are not up for it, this role is not for you. Not being okay with waiting for the doctors: Some folks are not okay with this. I've heard things like you used to be on the other side of the table, people used to wait for you and now you have to do that. Honestly, I am okay with it. If you are not, this role is not for you. We sometimes wait for more than an hour to meet a doctor.

Medical Affairs Strategist | Helping Medical Affairs Teams Connect with Clarity | Professional Coach | Lecturer | PhD. MSc Pharm Med
Lots of companies hire fantastic people into Medical Affairs roles Then expect them to “figure it out”. Happens every year. Management decides to set aggressive new in-field engagement targets. 📊 The ramped engagement quotas get handed down. Medical Affairs is told to deliver “impact”. 🎯 Then...*crickets* ➟ No training on what impact is or looks like. ➟ No support around strategic thinking. ➟ No support on overcoming barriers to engagement. Just an edict from the ivory tower: "Figure. It. Out." Companies so disconnected from reality. Clueless about what it takes to drive Medical Impact. They just raise the bar higher and higher. Provide zero support for clearing it. The cycle is all too predictable: • Medical Affairs teams get demoralised and burn out. • Top performers jump ship. • Innovation stagnates as strategy becomes an afterthought. Companies fail to realise one simple truth: You can't keep piling more onto Medical Affairs plates. Without giving them bigger plates to work with. Increasing the impact Medical Affairs delivers requires increasing: • Headcount and Medical Affairs hiring. • Supporting Strategic Thinking and innovation. • Re-thinking KPIs and metric measurement. • Providing the right training and coaching from the start. It's not enough to just crank up the targets. You have to equip and empower your Medical Affairs teams. Through a holistic strategy. Not just tell them to "figure it out." Does this resonate?
