“Passive studying is not enough, we need to actively engage people.” - Misuzu Asari, Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Japan This quote from our interactive roundtable this morning, “Cultural Cues in Circularity (3Cs): Understanding socio-cultural contexts in sustainable consumption and production”, highlights the core purpose of #SRISSD2024. Researchers, innovators, industry representatives, policymakers and more have joined us from around the world to bridge the gap between thinking and #SustainableAction. We look forward to seeing how new and reinvigorated ways of thinking are implemented across sectors beyond the Congress.

Finally, the #ENVforum 2023 Conference on "Empowering Innovation in Asia & Europe: SMEs at the Core of Circular Transformation" started today in Brussels. 2 days of dialogue and discussions, 70 participants from about 30 Asian and European countries, 4 international partner organisations, 2 local partners. Ambassador Toru Morikawa, #ASEF Executive Director, opened the event at the Press Club Brussels. Read some of the thoughts of his Welcome Remarks and well-wishes for the participants and the meeting. “It is essential we make fundamental changes in our consumption and production patterns, including by transitioning to responsible and sustainable economic and business models and by strengthening scientific, technological and innovation capacity. In view of the importance of SMEs in our economies and societies, it is indispensable to work together to bring about such changes. As we engage in discussions over the next two days, I hope these exchanges between Asia and Europe will not only facilitate dialogue and bi-regional networks, but also show practical examples of the best practices for SMEs to accelerate the green and circular transition. I hope it will also create a vehicle to share this precious knowledge with the vast number of SMEs in Asia and Europe and contribute to the achievement of SDG12 and other goals.” The #ENVforum 2023 conference partners are: Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) Hanns Seidel Foundation (Vietnam Office) Hanns Seidel Foundation European Brussels Office ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) 🙏 In collaboration with ASEANcham EU 🙏 In collaboration with Confederation of European Senior Expert Services 🙏 Co-funded by the #EuropeanUnion

Happy April! World Innovation Day is this month, so our spotlight this month is on new research about how innovation happens in multilateral contexts. Not surprisingly, it highlights that when states need to agree on something, incremental change is the typical approach. So is radical innovation even possible in intergovernmental organizations? https://wix.to/3mzldzq #innovation #invention #UNreform #reformworks

Highly important for the forward looking assessment of sustainability.
How can we reach a sustainable and climate-neutral bioeconomy by 2050? We start with a game! The European Commission’s Knowledge Centre for Bioeconomy put policymakers, primary producers, consumers, and businesses in a room and asked them to imagine the bioeconomy of the future. Through foresight workshops and serious gaming, they explored different scenarios, taking the role of different stakeholders. The result? Policy recommendations that could help shape the update of the EU bioeconomy strategy.
