"If we’re ever going to move consumer markets on sustainability, a standardized approach to labelling on claims and impacts will be critical. Yet questions remain over the best approaches, and how we must rethink storytelling, governance, and branding to help differentiate regenerative, low-impact, or alt-protein products at scale. Hear expert perspectives on major talking points such as: • How do we close the gap between farmers and consumers through MRV and product labelling? • What’s working well in creating incentives for voluntary data recording that is proving instrumental in guiding consumer buying power? • If a sustainable food seal is the catalyst for bringing together all impacts beyond GHG to water, social, biodiversity and more, how then do we prioritize impacts or claims governance in labelling and storytelling? • Is there more that we can do in reshaping retail and food service experiences to help reinforce sustainable, regenerative, and net-positive food choices beyond the middle class?"

Great to participate in #AlltechONE conference today. Some of the things that resonated with me include: - Sustainability does not begin and end with environmental impact. - With a global focus on sustainable protein, we should remember that animal protein has more bioavailable nutrients then plant proteins, they utilize non-arable land, and they are recyclers of inedible food waste streams. - It’s hard to be green when you are in the red. - This year every part of our world has been challenged by water, nutrition and climate - the sustainability solution is not a buzzword, it’s a requirement for resiliency.

Citizens of Humanity Group and Amy ( Hennisch ) Williams is “walking the walk” leading the way for other retailers to learn from their investment. One of the most notable investments is providing a premium price for cotton from farmers who are committed to regenerative practices. In partnership with Advancing Eco Agriculture they are rolling out new standards to set the bar for regenerative cotton. At all of the many cotton industry meetings I have been attending lately, sustainability is one of the number one topics around cotton production today. If you aren’t signing up for programs like the US Cotton Trust Protocol or Climate Smart Commodoties, or a regenerative certification, you are going to get left behind in the market. I’m so encouraged by all of the buzz that I hear around the industry. Now it’s time to do the work in the fields. Get those cover crops planted, report your data, make a sustainability plan. I have had the great privilege to be a part of great brands, and teams in the apparel industry for more than 30 years. Our work with regenerative cotton has been the most meaningful, rewarding, and likely the most lasting and impactful. The impact of a change to regenerative agriculture from conventionally grown OR organic cotton is profound. From Soil Health to carbon sequestration, the nutritional value of our food, farmers' physical and mental health and the economic impact of farming communities in the US and worldwide. This is a solution that with the INTEREST and SUPPORT of suppliers and brands, can change our future. The US is the 3rd largest exporter of Cotton and is looked to for high-quality raw materials for brands that produce products around the world. The simple question I would ask is, why NOT move to regenerative cotton and be a part of a long-term solution? Within the Food industry, General Mills and others have made a large-scale commitment.
