In February 2022, many observers initially evaluated the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a failure of Western deterrence. That assessment was and is flawed inasmuch as the West never articulated a clear strategy to deter such an invasion. Completely senseless, people dying every day for ruins left behind... the end will be dialog because nobody can win.... until then death rules. Mutual understanding leading to truce is the only way out. From there, interaction and peacebuilding must start, only this path leads to empathy and lets people grow together. It will make their radical leaders speechless. See: https://lnkd.in/dAqifWcT & https://lnkd.in/daeWExxj & www.pax.ngo
Yesterday putin met russian minister of defence, and the latter reported about taking over Ukrainian city Maryinka. The video shows how the city looks now. 10’000 people lived there before the russian invasion. Now it’s a wasteland. Another dead city… Destroyed by the russian plague. They want to do the same with the whole Ukraine. They want to destroy every of us, who does not want to live in that bloody Mordor. #russiaterroriststate #russianwarcrimes #stoprussia #stoprussianaggression #stopwarinukraine #supportukraine #standwithukraine

Note: This is a good examination of how Russian disinformation had skewed a lot of initial Western assessments of what has become Russo-Ukraine War. In retrospect, the anemic Western response to the illegal Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014 set the stage for the invasion of 2022

Russia's all-out invasion of Ukraine in February, 2022, has led to Europe's bloodiest conflict since World War Two. Kyiv's outgunned and outmanned forces withstood Moscow's initial assault and won back territory in the second half of 2022, but the failure of a Western-backed Ukrainian counteroffensive in 2023 has allowed the Russian army to reclaim the battlefield initiative this year. On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy attends a summit of at least 90 leaders and organisations in Switzerland at which he hopes to lay out a path to peace. Russia, which has not been invited, has dismissed the initiative as a waste of time, and China, its key ally since the war began, has said it would not attend. Following is a timeline of major events on the battlefield as momentum between the two sides has shifted back and forth: 2014: After forces loyal to pro-Russian Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich kill scores of demonstrators in Kyiv, he flees to Russia amid a popular uprising. Moscow responds by sending undercover troops to seize the Crimea peninsula, which Russia swiftly annexes. In eastern Ukraine's Donbas region, Russian agents and pro-Russian Ukrainian rebels launch an armed revolt and declare two independent "people's republics".

🇺🇦 Western support for Ukraine in its war with Russia is waning, and the frontline is at a stalemate, only worsened by the onset of winter. What does this mean for the survival of Ukraine and the success of Russia's invasion? In this article, Omar Khram asserts that dwindling Western support and shifting focus undermine Ukraine's ability to resist Russia. Khram notes that Ukraine's initial resilience, bolstered by Western aid, is weakening due to political deadlocks in the United States, reduced media engagement, and diverted global attention. Khram asserts that a lack of Western military and political support jeopardises global stability, whilst the West's support is vital for Ukraine's survival. #ukraine #nato #usa #usaid #russianinvasion https://lnkd.in/deFpWACn

Ukraine’s future in the medium term will be very challenging, unless the West puts an end to its procrastination and starts acting with vigour, writes Arkady Moshes in the newest FIIA Comment. 📝 The West is failing to provide Ukraine with sufficient resources to resist Russia’s invasion, and lacks a vision for the future of West-Russia relations. This may push Ukraine to the brink of defeat as early as 2024. Read the full comment: https://lnkd.in/dtRhhfpv #FIIApublication #ukraine

Ukraine sank yet another Russian warship this week and is now clearly winning the Battle of the Black Sea. In the past six months, Ukraine has broken the Russian blockade of the country's Black Sea ports and forced Putin's fleet to retreat from Crimea. This has been possible thanks to a combination of Ukrainian boldness and Western weapons that can serve as a blueprint for victory over Putin https://lnkd.in/dsZJkWkx
