In a company transition project, like our #newmoon project in Sumitomo Bakelite Europe (Ghent) NV, it is key to keep all employees informed about the progress and the challenges. I like the word #growingpains to describe our company situation, it might be a bit painful to go through changes, but it also emphasizes our ambition to grow our company in #Ghent substantially. During the session, we also ask for our employees #feedback, and I am happy to say that we got high ratings on questions like "I am convinced that the changes are necessary" (average 9 out of 10) and "I want to support these changes" (average 9). In addition we acknowledge that employees somewhat feel insecure about the transition. We got a lower rating on the question "I feel comfortable with the changes" (average 7) and we will continue and enlarge our #communication efforts to make sure every employee understands our journey. We got interesting open feedback and suggestions as well. My personal thanks to all SBEG-employees to show #commitment to our ambitious goals.

Kogut (1985) in his perspective of global strategy, emphasises strategic flexibility, whilst Collis (1991) has summarised global strategy in the following 4 points: • A global strategy is required whenever there are important interdependencies among a business’s competitive position in different countries. The acid test is whether a business is better off in one country by virtue of its position in another. • The sources of these interdependencies can be identified, including scale economies (Levitt, 1983), accumulated international experience, possession of global brand name, a learning curve effect (Porter, 1985), and the option value or cross-subsidisation (Hamel and Prahalad, 1985) that a multi-market presence confers. • The critical issues that a global strategy must address include the configuration and co-ordination of the business’s worldwide activities (Porter, 1986). • The organization structure should be aligned with and derived from the global strategy.
