Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) Chair Anna Collyer opened the sold-out Women In Renewables Summit in Sydney today, discussing opportunities for the energy sector to diagnose and overcome barriers to diversity and inclusion such as workplace safety, traditional views of ‘merit’ and systemic issues for employees with young families. ’Women are underrepresented across the board in energy, from technical roles to executive positions. By best estimates from WGEA and other sources, women make up less than 25% of the workforce in the energy sector – and far worse if you focus on technical and senior leadership roles,’ she said. ‘On the other hand, if we … look at women in renewable energy organisations, the numbers are more encouraging – around 40% in total and a more visible appearance in leadership roles. And this, as I see it, is the secret sauce – because the renewable energy component of the overall energy sector is growing and must grow even further and faster.’ Read the full speech: https://bit.ly/3zazNcP

🌍♀️ Africa: Empowering Women in Renewable Energy 🌱 As we honor Women’s History Month, let's highlight Africa's strides in renewable energy, led by pioneering women. Initiatives like the Climate Gender Equity Fund are fueling change, directing funding to women-led ventures. With less than 1% of startup funding going to female founders, these efforts are crucial. Grassroots organizations like Solar Sister are revolutionizing household energy management, bringing clean cookstoves to communities. As Africa embraces renewable energy, let's celebrate the women driving this transformation. Read the full article from CleanTechnica here: https://lnkd.in/gqSv6QEz

Content Specialist @ SolarReviews | Providing expertise on all things renewable energy and sustainability.
As we close out #WomensHistoryMonth, let's shine a spotlight on the incredible contributions of women in the solar industry. From engineers and researchers to project managers and entrepreneurs, these trailblazers are not just breaking barriers but illuminating the path toward a sustainable future. Here are some key findings: ☀ Women account for 31% of the U.S. solar workforce, a nearly 20% increase from 2017. ☀ More women across the globe work in the solar industry than in other global energy sectors, like oil or wind energy. ☀ Of the 30% of women who work in managerial positions in solar, only 18% of those are senior management positions. I would like to give a special shoutout to the women I was able to connect with to make this project come full circle: Sue McKeen, Riley Neugebauer, Karla Loeb, and Sherren Harter, thank you for sharing with me your accomplishments and stories - I was able to learn so much from each one of you! Let's continue to support and uplift women in the solar sector, amplifying their voices, recognizing their achievements, and fostering an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. ⛅ Click the link below to learn more: https://lnkd.in/et_AvDhH #WomenInSolar #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy
