The Euro 7 legislation will soon be implemented in the European Union and will limit the particle emissions from vehicles' brake systems. Improving brake pad formulations with friction materials that contribute to pad wear reduction is one of the approaches to minimize brake particle emissions. Superior Graphite’s FormulaFX provides specialty solutions tailored to reduce brake pad wear and minimize the brake particulate emissions. With a provisional Euro VII (7) agreement on the table, T&BB decided to analyse the proposed legislation with a fine-tooth comb. For the first time, the standards cover cars, vans, and heavy-duty vehicles in one single document. A major change in Euro VII compared to Euro 6 standards, is the introduction of limits on particulates emitted from the exhaust, brakes and tyres. Besides gas emissions and particulates, the legislation sets limits for battery durability incorporating what the European Commission calls, a “whole vehicle approach” as opposed to just engine testing. European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has been a constant dissenting voice, slamming the proposed standards as too severe, unrealistic, and too costly by citing a lack of support both in terms of funding and critical infrastructure. As the dust settles, T&BB will keep you up to date with the developments surrounding Euro VII. The proposal still needs to be formally endorsed and then adopted by both the European Parliament and the European Council (EC) before becoming law. Worth a quick read. Particulate matter pollution from brake pads, tyres and alternative fuels are all considered within Euro 7 Regulations. Battery durability is also highlighted and this could have a major impact on the residual values for second hand EVs.

Interesting read! 📖 'California will require truck manufacturers to accelerate sales of zero emission vehicles, setting increasing ZEV manufacturing standards starting from 2024 through 2035 that several other states are also choosing to adopt – together, California and those states represent 22% of the national truck market.' 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨 𝟕 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐥𝐞 The EU Council released the press that adopted the Euro 7 regulation, which lays down rules on emission limits for road vehicles and battery durability. This is the last step in the decision-making procedure. The text adopted today covers cars, vans, and heavy-duty vehicles in one single legal act and aims to further lower air pollutant emissions from exhaust fumes and brakes. The new regulation also establishes stricter lifetime requirements. The Euro 7 regulation establishes rules for the exhaust emissions of road vehicles, but also for other types of emissions such as tire abrasion and brake particle emissions. It also introduces requirements for battery durability. For cars and vans, the regulation keeps the existing Euro 6 exhaust emission limits but introduces stricter requirements for solid particles. For heavy-duty buses and lorries, the regulation imposes more stringent limits for various pollutants, including some that have not been regulated until now, such as nitrous oxide (N2O). In addition, Euro 7 introduces stricter limits for particle emissions produced when braking, with specific limits for electric vehicles. The new rules also include stricter lifetime requirements for all vehicles in terms of both mileage and lifetime. The dates of application of the regulation will depend on the kind of vehicle concerned(48 months for the longest). #Euro7 #Caremission #sustainable #Europetruck #TBR #PCR https://lnkd.in/ewYbR9A6

In a significant development for California's logistics sector, CARB has decided to temporarily withdraw its requirement for drayage operators to register only zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) in the state's drayage truck registry: https://lnkd.in/guWywPPh This decision comes against the backdrop of ongoing legal discussions and CARB's request for an EPA waiver for more stringent emission rules. The initial rule, part of California's ambitious environmental agenda, aimed at significantly reducing emissions from the logistics sector. However, with this temporary retraction, internal combustion engine vehicles can continue to be registered, providing temporary relief to the industry. This decision underscores the complex interplay between environmental goals and operational realities in the logistics sector. EAIGLE's solutions can be instrumental in assisting drayage operators in California navigate the evolving regulatory landscape. While the retraction of CARB's ZEV rule is temporary, our yard solutions, such as Automated Vehicle Access Control (AVAC™), will ensure compliance with current and future regulations while also promoting environmental sustainability. eaigle.com

The new Euro 7 standard recently passed into law. With it, brake dust emissions have come into focus for the first time. Coming into force towards the end of 2026, braking experts have been preparing to ensure products comply with the new legislation. TMD Friction has been actively involved in the Particle Measurement Programme (PMP) working group of the European Economic Commission of the United Nations (UNECE) since 2016 to support the methodology, test cycle, and test bench construction for the measurement of brake dust emissions for the Euro 7 standard. As a crucial partner in shaping this new legislation, TMD Friction shares insights on the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eZwA7aVs
