It was fantastic to attend the #CIMA Career Confidence event at Lancaster University last week, with a panel of experts sharing their experiences on advancing their careers in Finance. Although the advice given was for finance professionals, as a recruiter I took so much away from it that will help me in guiding the professionals I speak to every day. Here were some key takeaways: ⭐️ Show your personality through your CV. Consider how have you added value to businesses you have worked at through your passion projects. ⭐️ If you’ve joined a business and realised it’s not the right match for you, then have the courage to walk away, and find the role that is. ⭐️ Be curious. Build your knowledge through asking questions of those around you. ⭐️ Embrace technology. The roles within Finance are constantly changing with the advancement of software, and it’s best to lean into it and learn to utilise what’s available. Thank you Karen Young FCICM for chairing the panel, and giving confidence to audience to ask insightful questions, and to the panel for their advice - John-Paul Yates, Laura H., Steve Harrop, Richard Kenworthy and Catherine Humphreys, and Sue Hurrell for organising.
