Empowering the Next Generation: A Positive Shift at the Summit of the Future Today at the #SummitoftheFuture in New York, I’m thrilled to witness a significant shift towards the empowerment of children and young people. The outcome document adopted today reflects a more empowering vision, recognizing youth as critical agents of positive change. "We will invest in the social and economic development of children and young people so that they can reach their full potential. To fulfil their full potential and secure decent, productive work and quality employment, young people must have access to safe, inclusive, equitable and quality education opportunities, including in emergencies, throughout their lives that equip them with the knowledge, skills and capabilities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world" - This is not just about words – it’s about action. 🌱 Empowering the #NextGeneration: #MOVING2020 has actively engaged over 1300 young people from the 23 mountain regions through workshops, field trips, and discussions. Our aim was to understand their views and explore their potential roles in shaping the sustainable future of these areas and #valuechains. Major insights: 🔸 Young people value their regions but are concerned about challenges like #ClimateChange and lack of investment. 🔸 Strong calls for improved infrastructure, and enhanced education and training opportunities. 🔸 Greater involvement of young people in policy-making is essential. According to the UN, half of world population is 30 or younger and this is expected to increase by the end of 2030. This means it's essential to work with young people in order to achieve global goals. Young people are widely known as "digital natives " due to their ability to create solutions for global issues using technology. As we are reaching the deadline of the Agenda 2030, it is crucial to include, allow and empower youth to actively participate in global goals. In terms of empowering youth, I trust that we must create initiatives to include all youth especially, youth in vulnerable communities as they are vital for promoting awareness on global peace, climate change, human rights, and more.
