Shoot your shot, but shoot it where you shoot best. You never saw Shaq pulling up for 3, because that wasn’t his game. If you get success with voicemails do it. If cold calling is your thing do it. If texting and videos give you the best success do that. If you like flatbed do it, if you like reefer do it! Heck, if you have a knack for lumber companies and you crush it do that😂. The point is focus on what you do best. Just be willing to adjust if it’s not working. #kidfreight #sales #logistics #trucking

Sometimes expectations or goals, can be a road block. Most of the times I’ve failed I’ve had these, and some of my best successes I had none. When I entered brokerage, I had no expectations or goals. I had heard it could take a long time no build a book, that the market was getting bad, a bunch of other things. I just showed up picked up the phone, emailed, and worked. It was freeing. Similar thing happen when I started on LinkedIn, I had no goals or expectations. I am actually more worried about when I can return to brokerage, because I think I will hold myself to those standards, and what I “think” I know. I share this because if you are out there beating yourself up about not having goals, or direction that could be a blessing in disguise. #kidfreight #sales #logistics #trucking

Play to your strengths. I learned early on you don’t want to say “yes” or try to do everything. I had 2 absolute disasters with OD, and bulk shipments early on in my career. Never wanted to touch it again. My first month or 2 as a broker I was trying to get any customer I could. 1. I got in with a bulk customer. They had other freight too, but I got a chance solely to do a bulk load. I had zero clue how that worked (first mistake) I went to this bulk website that apparently had carriers. I realized carriers set the prices. And oh ya there was a ton of different information I had to relay to the carrier I didn’t understand. Then the carrier fell off the day off, and I realized this isn’t van, flatbed, or reefer rate I couldn’t cover….. It was very embarrassing. 2. I got a customer I had done some flatbed with, and they called me up about a machine. This is when I realized I wasn’t going to like a lot of flatbed rate. He spent a hour trying to tell me how he could reshift this machine to make it not”od” Well apparently this is illegal according to someone I was working with who was much more knowledgeable. Customer was irate, and that’s when I realized any product that I had to worry about height ,length, etc wasn’t going to be fun. A lot of you might be thinking well Matt flatbed freight is much easier then reefer. I think for everybody it’s different. For example, my worst grade in school was Art. I got a D. Also, geometry was harder for me than calculus. Certain things that are easy for everyone else stress me out, and certain things others find hard I understand better and enjoy. My niche became mostly food, and flatbed and van products that I understood. It worked out well for me, and I enjoyed it. Find a niche that you enjoy, and that you are good at and go with it. Plenty of freight out there. #kidfreight #sales #logistics #trucking

President at AlmCrown Delivery | Work with me to get your final mile Consumer Goods shipped intact and on time, to their final destination.
A former client is trying to poach my customers and it’s pissing me off. Let me explain. I had what I thought was a great relationship with an out of province client. Until this point we serviced their Ontario pickups and deliveries and looked after their cross dock and warehousing. Not a large account, (which makes me wonder how they can afford their own local warehouse) but nonetheless we were happy being their local representation. Last week, without any communication, they opened up an Ontario location. This happens. I get it. They want to try to get into the GTA market. But then they swayed one of my warehouses/cross dock accounts to move in with them. So far, they’ve approached 3 other accounts that I’m aware of. Which is just not cool. I don’t have much experience with back solicitation. One time, a driver of mine decided to open up a logistics company and tried to poach my clients, but they ended up going under within a few short months. Other than that, this is new. And honestly, I’m hurt. I’m the kind of guy that likes to help people out. When someone says, “Hey Jason, I have a load going to Moncton do you know anyone?” I often say, “Yes. I’ll intro you.” So now, today, I’m sitting here re-thinking my business philosophy. Am I foolish for trying to connect people? What could I have done differently? It’s eating at me. I am feeling rather dark. Thank you next is hard to say today. __ 👋 Hi, I’m Jason. I run a logistics company that specializes in customized deliveries. Follow for more industry insights.
