Attention ATC community- “Bad actors” out there spam people claiming to sell lists of members from associations. This is a common thing that happens to all kinds of organizations and attendees at events. When you get such an email- they did not get access to our lists- but figure out “info” addresses and other guesses at emails. Sometimes they use your website contact form to reach you. ATC does not sell our lists. But lately some of our members are getting emails from “Data Group Leads” claiming to be selling lists to our members. Ignor these. And do not reply (or they know they have a real email and will send you many more offers). For ATC and all other organizations you belong to…. Remember that any communication that seems “not right” is a bad actor. And there is not really ways to stop them. All non-profits just need to keep educating members that these are not real offers sponsored by the group being named. John Oliver has a segment last week about what big busienss these scams are - it’s more about personal scams… but not will make you rethink every email you get from someone you don’t know https://lnkd.in/gwa_7cge

Thanks for your article in F&P (Fundraising & Philanthropy) magazine, Steven. Valuable advice for #charities. Do you have advice about admin + overheads for grant-seekers? In my experience, non-profits - especially those new to grant fundraising - can feel uncomfortable requesting a high funding amount. Your advice to people who are "shy" about asking for what they need is spot on: "describe what you would do with more funding if available". Sometimes organisations undervalue the costs associated with a grant. Applicants request funding that is not enough to cover the cost to deliver the program, forcing them to use reserves or other funds (donations, bequests) to make up the difference. Charities should request an amount that covers all the "hidden costs" required to write, deliver, measure and acquit the grant, including staff time, and a percentage of the organisation's running costs. This amount should also make allowance for the funds needed to ensure the organisation is sustainable - investment in capacity, governance, innovation, staff development and raising the next dollar (fundraising). The sector is becoming more aware of the need for greater flexibility in grant funding. More funders are awarding grants with less restrictions so the money can be directed to where it will have the most impact. Initiatives such as Reframe Overhead + Pay What it Takes are encouraging charities, funders and donors to change the conversation. Could programs like Penfolds' help to educate grant-seeking non-profits to account for the cost of being sustainable in their approach? This could help reverse the dominant "hand-to-mouth" attitude in the sector. I'd love to hear your perspective. #nonprofits #fundraisers #fundraising #grantmaking #grantfundraising #forpurpose

❗ Don't miss Daniel Wexler's workshop during the The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York's 4th annual Food Summit! 💡 Dan will be hosting an interactive session on Food As Medicine Interventions and #socialdeterminantsofhealth. The session goal is to illustrate how--in addition to income--other social determinants of health pose a barrier to food security; consider the diversity of #FoodisMedicine (FIM) treatment options; and understand the different types of benefits each solution offers, and what interventions might work best for different patients.
