📢 NHS England has cancelled the primary care digital pathways framework, originally intended to help ICBs, PCNs, and practices implement modern general practice access plans. Despite the change, ICBs will continue to support practices in navigating the digital market. How helpful has the pathway framework been to primary care and how utilised has it been? What will replace it I wonder? Reflecting on this week’s fantastic Cambridge Health Network event ‘Ensuring the health care revolution delivers on its promise’, featuring NICE’s Samantha Roberts, Albion’s Andrew Elder, Tobias Rijken and Sarah Justine Kerruish from Kheiron Medical. Despite much energy and optimism around the role HealthTech can and will play in the ‘healthcare revolution’, it was also a reminder of the scale of the challenges faced by innovators seeking to achieve scale across the health system. Achieving product market fit is a unique challenge for organisations working with the NHS, with contentious issues such as pricing and acceptable profit margins persisting. Fragmented procurement is also driving higher than necessary go to market costs, in turn restricting the ability of NHS leaders to invest in new technologies. The role of regulators and policymakers in preparing the ground for innovation has therefore arguably never been more important. Key points discussed also included: - The NHS is inundated with digital tools - this is confusing the pathway for payers and clinicians alike. Simplifying and streamlining the use of HealthTech is imperative. - For entrepreneurs and investors, Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) to Life Time Value (LTV) is ultimately the key equation - bringing down CAC will be central to widespread adoption. - When a company gets its product and service right, the NHS needs to be ready to buy it at scale; regulators and NHS leaders must prepare the ground and fight inertia for innovation to drive change. - For investors, the lag between approval of new tech and devices and implementation is considerable. If services are not bought at scale ultimately technology companies and capital providers will be forced to find new markets in different geographies. - HealthTech doesn’t provide the answer to every question facing the health service, but embracing innovation is a major opportunity for the NHS. For further context on the size of the challenge the NHS faces, check out CF’s analysis from yesterday of the NHS waiting list. While progress has been made in clearing the longest waits, we are not making progress fast enough. The total waiting list size continues to rise with long waits leading to increasing patient complexity and poorer outcomes. #NHS #Electiverecovery #NHSwaitinglists #covid19 #healthtech https://lnkd.in/esUAw3wk

Meet Gerda, an 80-year-old who recently underwent a hip operation 👵👇 Upon leaving the hospital, she entered into municipal care. What should have been a seamless transition, however, turned into a labyrinth of coordination issues between hospital and municipal healthcare providers. While the hospital did dispatch a discharge report to the municipal home care service, crucial details about Gerda's condition and stay at the hospital were absent. This posed a significant challenge for the nurse responsible for her medication regimen. Without knowing when Gerda last received pain relieving medication at the hospital - was it 3 or 4 hours ago? - the municipal nurse found herself at a loss. Recognising the situation's urgency to ensure Gerda's comfort and recovery, the municipal nurse had to reach out to her counterpart at the hospital. Unfortunately, Gerda's experience isn't unique; it mirrors the broader healthcare landscape in Denmark. Fragmented patient information due to inadequate system integration continues to impede the efforts of dedicated healthcare professionals, ultimately affecting the quality of care delivered to citizens like Gerda. To address this issue, Systematic has developed Columna Axon: An innovative solution that empowers healthcare professionals in the municipality with access to citizens’ medical records from the hospital with just one tap, eliminating the need to call the hospital. This allows better coordination and communication across sectors and makes room for faster treatment and fewer errors Learn more about how Columna Axon can help bridge the information gap between hospitals and municipalities ➡️ https://hubs.ly/Q02rNZ660 #Healthcare #ContinuumOfCare #PatientSafety #SystemIntegration #InformationGap

Wound Care Revolution: Improved Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) collaboration and clinician time saved with data sharing platform. Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) and Nottinghamshire Trusts showcase Isla’s positive impact on efficiency and sustainability. Wound care poses a significant and escalating challenge for the NHS, with an annual expenditure of approximately £8.3 billion, expected to rise alongside our ageing population. Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) collaboration is essential in wound care and this is optimised through the Isla platform, enabling real-time image sharing that transforms Tissue Viability Nurse (TVN) deployment models, allowing TVNs to efficiently advise and spread their expertise across a broader patient base, improving wound care provision. At CLCH, Isla’s impact is saving 5.4% of clinicians’ working day and also aligns with National Wound Care Strategy goals for risk stratification. At Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Isla’s multifaceted impact is saving £155,260 annually, reducing face-to-face interactions, and contributing to a substantial reduction in clinical time, CO2 emissions, and travel miles. It's a joy to be able to work with clinical teams at different organisations across the UK and Ireland to understand how technology like Isla Health can be leveraged to make things easier and simpler for clinicians and patients. The Delivery team at Isla spend time collaborating with clinical teams to understand existing processes and the challenges or pain points that exist within those processes. This helps identify the bits of Isla's broad functionality that is best suited to the clinical team and allows us to design and implement a bespoke new pathway or process that overcomes the challenges identified. This approach ensures that clinical insights are at the core of our implementations and that the tool can be used flexibly across multiple specialties. At Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Isla is being used to support wound care in two different ways: 1) Empowering clinician capture of data that is automatically synced to the relevant EPR/EMR 2) Enabling patients, carers, and loved ones to quickly capture and submit data pertaining to their wounds (no download/login required = fewer blockers to uptake) The presence of this high quality data in these organisations has improved clinician to clinician communication, identified patient deterioration and non-healing wounds, and introduced a number of productivity benefits for clinical teams - all while improving and maintaining high quality patient care.

Scope review creating ‘McMedicine’: RACGP President https://lnkd.in/gr3vgmSq Dr. Nicole Higgins, President of the RACGP, raises a red flag on the Scope of Practice Review's second issues paper, voicing concerns that quality and safety are at risk for the sake of convenience. This 'McMedicine' approach could fracture Australia's healthcare system, undermining the comprehensive training and role of GPs in primary care. It's time to rethink policy changes and invest in a system that values the full scope of general practice. #HealthcarePolicy #GeneralPractice #QualityOfCare #RACGP #PrimaryCare #MedicalTraining #HealthSystem #PatientSafety

Retired Military Special Needs Dad || I help military special needs families by highlighting quality of life issues
Glad we are finally using technology to help with medical appointments to streamline access to service. For the next iteration, lets allow members to schedule appointments at their next duty station as soon as they have orders. The days of moving, waiting for months to see a PCM, then waiting even more for the specialist needs to stop! Combine this with the ability to place specialist referrals before moving will allow EFMP families to further reduce gaps in service. #EFMP #MilitaryFamilies
