Supporting Education has been one of our continued initiatives over the years. The Northern Virginia Science Center offers a summer cybersecurity internship program targeting high school seniors and college freshmen. This initiative emphasizes both professional skills development and cybersecurity training. Last month, Michelle Hope from Techaxis, Inc., an expert in tech recruitment, conducted a highly regarded session for the participants in this age group. Her insights were well-received by the interns. After completing two weeks of intensive professional skills and cybersecurity training, forty high schoolers have now embarked on industry placements at prominent organizations such as Leidos, CGI Federal, Maximus, and Appian Corporation. This opportunity marks a significant step forward for these young individuals, and we are grateful to contribute to their growth. Here's to a promising future!

Reflecting on my internship journey so far at LinkedIn, I’ve had the privilege to connect and network with amazing individuals who have graciously shared their wisdom and insights, enriching my perspective on the field of Cybersecurity. I especially want to extend my gratitude towards the InfoSec REACH Apprentices at LinkedIn who took time out of their day yesterday to participate in a panel and share their insights on how to craft a fruitful internship experience. Special shout-out to Angel Liu for hosting this panel. While the experience so far has felt incredibly rewarding, I won't deny the challenges of learning industry jargon, feelings of imposter syndrome, and the draining of my social battery as an introvert. Regardless, I believe these challenges have contributed to my personal and professional growth as each day gets a little easier than the last. Today is National Intern Day and a Throwback Thursday. To commemorate, I found an old video that I haven't shared before: My first step into my career at Cisco began back in 2016 as a Security Operations Center (SOC) intern. I didn't have any prior knowledge of what Cisco did, nor did I have a background in cybersecurity. However, I wanted to make the most of my summer internship. This video serves as a glimpse of what that summer consisted of. To all the interns out there: make the most of your experience, network with others, make mistakes, ask the "stupid" questions, and don't be afraid to raise your hand—you never know what opportunities will come your way.
