Thank you Tri-Sector Associates for having us at Catalytic Impact Studio 2024! We had the privilege to share with a curated group of 17 organisations some of our work and #learnings as a #socialimpacthub. We discussed how we can push the norm of what #collaborations could look like in the #philanthropy space and also shared our perspective on behalf of Temasek Trust as an Outcomes Amplifier Funder on the Family Empowerment Programme (FEP) we embarked on with Tri-Sector Associates, Standard Chartered, and AWWA Ltd. We are thankful for how this partnership has grown and flourished since TSA became a co-working partner at #TemasekShophouse 4 years ago! #socialimpact #buildingbetterforeverygeneration

17 years ago, when I started, the term "impact investing" did not exist and the Sustainable Development Goals had not yet been launched. Our trust-based and engaged approach to philanthropy that centers around the needs of local communities sits at the heart of our work. We are deeply grateful and honored to have been supporting our incredible local partners that have improved the quality of lives of millions of people facing disadvantages as well as protecting critical ecosystems. This impact would not have been possible without the support and close collaboration with key partners, funders, and thought leaders. Thank you. We are facing a global poly-crisis that has been building for years: climate change, biodiversity loss, pandemics, economic collapse, and social unrest are threatening lives and livelihoods for generations to come. In this piece, I expand on these crises and how LGT Venture Philanthropy's "Thriving Communities" Strategy for 2024-2028 is boldly supporting organizations to drive solutions that directly contribute to achieving the SDGs. 🌟 Just attended an insightful conference on "Philanthropy in the 21st Century" as part of the Action Week at EGADE. It was a privilege to hear from Melissa Berman and engage in a panel discussion featuring Lorena Guillé-Laris, Magdalena Aninat Sahli, @Rodrigo Villar, moderated by Luciana Manfredi. Here are my 5 key takeaways from the experience: 1. Embrace Collaborative Philanthropy: Collaboration among organizations of all sizes and sectors is crucial for addressing root causes of social issues effectively and sharing knowledge. 2. Shift from Control to Collaboration: Advocating for systemic reforms in philanthropy is essential, fostering transparency and accountability, in order to build trust. 3. Invest in Data and Talent: Prioritizing investment in data analysis and talent development enhances the sector's capacity for long-term impact and innovation. 4.Promote Cross-Sector Partnerships: Encouraging cross-sector partnerships and innovative giving/investment models is vital for comprehensive solutions to complex social challenges. 5. Embrace Risk and Learn from Failure: Cultivating a culture of risk-taking and learning from failures promotes systemic change and sustainable solutions over the long term. Grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside such inspiring leaders! 💼🌍 #Philanthropy #EGADEActionWeek

"Giving circles are disrupting philanthropy in Australia" - This powerful insight resonated deeply with me today as I had the privilege of participating in a thought-provoking discussion on "Democratising Philanthropy - A Focus on Collective Giving" at Deloitte's Sydney CBD office. As Co-chair of Impact100 Sydney, I joined sector colleagues Kristen Lark , Sara Lomelin, and Kate Stone in a panel skillfully moderated by Wayne Green. Our conversation highlighted a transformative shift in the philanthropic landscape. Collective giving is emerging as a cornerstone in redefining what it means to 'give' in our contemporary world and beyond. It's not just about the amount; it's about fostering a culture of participation and shared responsibility. I'm energised by the potential for cross-sector collaboration that lies ahead. Our goal? To inspire and empower everyday Australians to become active participants in a culture of giving. Let's champion this inclusive approach to philanthropy, where every contribution, regardless of size, can make a meaningful impact. Together, we can create a more engaged, compassionate, and democratic society. #DemocratizingPhilanthropy #CollectiveGiving #GrassrootsImpact #StrongerTogether #impact100sydney

🙌🏿 Our CEO Debra Healy was pleased to have been invited to attend and contribute to Pathway Fund’s Listening session last month at the Black Cultural Archives. 💥 It was thrilling to be in the room with other inspiring Black-led organisations focused on racial equality across different sectors and share insights and experiences on the work we each achieve within our communities. 📣 Pathway Fund plans to become a Black-led impact investment wholesaler to boost the entrepreneurial and social investment sector with further funding opportunities for Black and Minoritised led initiatives and we can’t wait to see this plan develop further. 🙌🏿 Together we reimagined what the future could look like for a Black-led wholesaler, and throughout the day we described our priorities and aims for a sustainable pathway fund that could provide long term support to organisations. 💥 Create Equity shares a similar vision to Pathway Fund in seeking to create racially equitable access to finance opportunities, so it is a privilege to collaborate in making our visions a reality. 🙏🏿 Many thanks to the organisers Dilys Kyeiwaa Winterkorn and Swati Pujari from Pathway Fund for organising, and to Dilhani Wijeyesekera for the expert facilitation. NEW READ! ICYMI the Council on Foundations latest report: "Coming Together, Not Apart: How Philanthropy Supports Connection in a Time of Dangerous Division" is out (link below 👇) ! This report offers a powerful reflection on the work being done across the country to foster connection, bridge divides, and promote belonging at a time when many of us are grappling with deep societal divisions. I had the honor of contributing to this report, and being a part of the process has been both humbling and inspiring. The voices of so many incredible colleagues, partners, and mentors, including Alison Grubbs and Lauren Higgins from New Pluralists, Cary Simmons from the Trust for Public Land, Stephen Deline and Ella Barrett from The New Conversation Initiative, Wendy Feliz of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, and Cecilie Surasky from the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley, are reflected in its pages with authenticity and care. Big appreciation and 👏 to Nichole Argo for weaving so many voices together in conversation. The dialogue mirrors the offline conversations so many of us have been having as a field — conversations about how we relearn what it means to be in community, whether we share the same experiences and identities or not. This report gives me hope. It’s a reminder that while the challenges are many, we are doing important work and we are making progress. It highlights where the field of bridge-building and belonging work stands today, providing both a snapshot and a roadmap for the future. I believe we’ll look back at work like this as an important benchmark for how far we’ve come, grateful for the groundwork it laid in advancing an inclusive democracy. I’m excited about what’s to come, particularly the future installments of this series: in-depth case studies and strategies that will guide us as we continue to learn and grow together. At the recent members retreat of the Global Philanthropists Circle in beautiful Comporta, Portugal, we came together with participants from 15 countries to reflect on our theme, “Becoming Better Ancestors.” The gathering was not just about philanthropy; it was an opportunity to step back, connect with nature, and consider the legacy we hope to create. One powerful takeaway was seeing members embrace intergenerational conversations to strengthen their impact. From next-generation insights to a moving fireside chat between a mother and daughter honouring a grandfather’s legacy, these dialogues highlighted the importance of bridging past, present, and future for lasting change. Through the Synergos Bridging Leadership approach, rooted in inner work, collaboration, and systems thinking, we’re not only exploring what’s possible but actively working to shift systems toward a future grounded in trust, love, and shared purpose. As a community, we’re answering the call to think boldly and act courageously. Together, we can foster transformational change and become the ancestors future generations will be proud of. #Philanthropy #Leadership #BetterAncestors

On reinventing #philanthropy: How can a simple game help untangle traditional donor-grantee relationships and give incentives to topple and rebuild these relationships in a healthier way? Please read the below, and kindly also read the blogs linked to the post. Opportunity Collaboration Chisina Kapungu Michelle A. In case you haven’t seen, check out our website to read two important new blogs by @WomenStrong staff about how two recent events are informing our work to shift power toward grantee partners and to play a supporting role in partners’ capacity strengthening work. Here are three takeaways: > Fostering Trust in Donor-Grantee Relationships: Staff and partners who joined @Opportunity Collaboration last fall used a Jenga game to learn through play what works (and doesn't) in donor/implementer relationships. Trust is the great differentiator in effective relationships. > Four Transformative Principles for Greater Impact: The Jenga game enabled our staff and partners to understand that embracing supportive funding, recognizing and wielding power responsibly, defining success collaboratively, and building equality in relationships – all enhance collaboration and mutual impact. > Transformative Retreats and Trust-Based Philanthropy: WomenStrong’s Learning Lab Retreat last fall demonstrated the power of trust-based philanthropy. By holding space for partners to convene, lead, and shape peer learning, we have since witnessed a surge in creativity, connection, and collective power, emphasizing the importance of our approach to creating lasting change.
