This call presents a great opportunity to try new ideas for strengthening FOs in Uganda. It is also an opportunity to address #forgotten but crucial constraints in the FO environment, such as #mobilitypoverty, which is a key driver of high transaction costs for FOs and their off takers. Considering the set-up of FOs in Uganda (SHF driven), last mile product aggregation and input provision in a cost-effective and sustainable manner is key, and there is no better tool to achieve this than the Buffalo Bicycles and its supporting #ecosystem of #mechanics & #Shops. From our earlier work in Africa, we have evidence that owning a Buffalo contributed to increased incomes by 23%, increased farmer visits by lead farmers by 120%, saved farmers 3.5 Hrs per week and reduced SHF's time to market by 45%. With this solution, as a private sector actor, we are actively looking for like-minded partners to help shift outcomes for Ugandan small holder farmers. Companies from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Somalia are making investments in Kenya's service, manufacturing, agriculture, and oil and gas industries. This trend marks a shift from the historical pattern where Kenyan businesses were typically the ones expanding into neighboring countries. Notable examples include: 🔻 Tanzania's Amsonsgroup bidding $183 million to take over Bamburi Cement PLC 🔻 Uganda's PEARL DAIRY FARMs acquiring a Kenyan milk company 🔻 Taifa Gas Tanzania constructing a $101 million LPG terminal in Mombasa 🔻 Somalia's Premier Bank buying a majority stake in Kenya's First Community Bank

The Water Quality Assurance Fund is an innovative program with a financial mechanism developed to encourage water quality monitoring in rural areas of #Ghana, #Kenya, and similar countries. This report, produced by USAID/REAL-Water, summarizes baseline data collected in Kenya and identifies several areas for improvement in water safety management such as water quality knowledge, water treatment, communications and consumer perceptions.
