They say, "Wherever you go, there YOU are." Nothing changes until you change your mindset. I remember being headhunted for a position at Citi Group (my third stint with the bank). I was so proud to share the good news that my business card would say Assistant Vice President. It was one of the most challenging positions that I have held in my 30 years in banking. It was a great opportunity and I learned a lot. My key learnings were: ✅ Assume positive intent but explore actual intent. ✅ We always make ourselves the hero of our story. ✅ No matter how much you are being paid, you are exchanging time for money. As I approached 50, my view of titles, jobs, and myself changed. I now realize that we were all made for a purpose and until we find that thing... we are never truly happy. I am honored and excited to share 📣 ..... ...that today, I scratched off that annoying (yet needed) task from my to-do list. So many times on this platform, we see people celebrating the big milestones in their careers: a major breakthrough, a new product launch, the newest TV spot, a promotion, or a new career move. Don’t get me wrong, these are all worth celebrating. But what about celebrating the little wins? -Finding a solution to a problem -Wrapping up a presentation -Garnering cross-functional alignment -Getting through emails - So. many. emails! I don’t know about you, but taking the time each day to acknowledge that I'm making meaningful progress on my way to the big milestones, makes each day that much more engaging and satisfying. I hadn’t realized it's been 3 years since joining VAST Data until I received a call from my manager Karmit Shitrit wishing me a happy anniversary. I was so glad she did because I was reminded that tomorrow is actually my wedding anniversary. Not that I forgot of course, Allie Feuerstein 😅 . It’s been a challenging year and I promised myself not to let tough times pass me by without adding new tools to my arsenal. I jotted down a few takeaways that I found to be at the very least helpful, if not critical and hope you’ll find them useful as well. Whether on the personal or business front, whether as an IC or a leader, here are a few thoughts to consider: 1. Leap for the opportunity to take accountability. It will ensure you'll improve individually and level up your team. 2. Always be contributing, regardless of your personal responsibility.   3. Don't train enough so you get it right. Train enough so you can't get it wrong. 4. ⁠Train as though you're competing against yourself. This will force you to become more creative and resourceful. 5. ⁠Take pride in being outnumbered or out-resourced by your competition. Make sure they're outmatched. 6. If you have to fire someone on your team, consider this YOUR failure and make adjustments for the future. 7. If you're in a leadership role, be sure to take the time to imprint your values and considerations onto your direct report, especially if they’re a leader. This will enable you to trust them to be independently effective in achieving their/your objectives while allowing you to keep your focus where it needs to be. 8. Employee feedback is a gift. Use it! 9. Earn the spot you have on your team every day. LET'S GO!!!
