New 3D Scanners at Airports: A Game-Changer Amid Delays and Confusion ✈️🧳 New 3D scanners could end the frustrating liquid limits at airports, but delays in their installation are causing significant disruptions in the UK. Birmingham Airport experienced major delays this weekend due to confusion over new hand luggage liquid rules. Photos on social media showed long queues outside the airport from as early as 5 am, with some passengers waiting up to two hours to pass through security. This chaos comes shortly after the introduction of new restrictions that aimed to increase the liquid limit from 100ml to two liters. The UK's Department for Transport had initially approved several airports to lift the 100ml limit following the installation of new CT scanners. However, many airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester, missed the deadline due to logistical issues, causing the temporary reintroduction of the 100ml rule at six airports, including London City, Aberdeen, and Newcastle. Birmingham Airport, despite upgrading to the new scanners, is limited by regulatory restrictions, leading to extended queuing times due to non-compliant bags with liquids over the 100ml limit. The Airport Operators Association (AOA) criticized the sudden changes, citing the lack of notice and the challenges it presents for airport operators in terms of staffing and resources. The new 3D scanners, once fully implemented, promise to streamline the airport experience, improve security, reduce plastic waste, and save passengers money by allowing larger liquid containers. As the transition continues, passengers are advised to check airport websites for the latest information on liquid limits and security procedures. #Aviation #Travel #AirportSecurity #3DScanners #PassengerExperience #TravelUpdates
