New 3D Scanners at Airports: A Game-Changer Amid Delays and Confusion ✈️🧳 New 3D scanners could end the frustrating liquid limits at airports, but delays in their installation are causing significant disruptions in the UK. Birmingham Airport experienced major delays this weekend due to confusion over new hand luggage liquid rules. Photos on social media showed long queues outside the airport from as early as 5 am, with some passengers waiting up to two hours to pass through security. This chaos comes shortly after the introduction of new restrictions that aimed to increase the liquid limit from 100ml to two liters. The UK's Department for Transport had initially approved several airports to lift the 100ml limit following the installation of new CT scanners. However, many airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester, missed the deadline due to logistical issues, causing the temporary reintroduction of the 100ml rule at six airports, including London City, Aberdeen, and Newcastle. Birmingham Airport, despite upgrading to the new scanners, is limited by regulatory restrictions, leading to extended queuing times due to non-compliant bags with liquids over the 100ml limit. The Airport Operators Association (AOA) criticized the sudden changes, citing the lack of notice and the challenges it presents for airport operators in terms of staffing and resources. The new 3D scanners, once fully implemented, promise to streamline the airport experience, improve security, reduce plastic waste, and save passengers money by allowing larger liquid containers. As the transition continues, passengers are advised to check airport websites for the latest information on liquid limits and security procedures. #Aviation #Travel #AirportSecurity #3DScanners #PassengerExperience #TravelUpdates

✈️ Major UK Airports to Miss Scanner Upgrade Deadline, Liquid Restrictions Continue The UK's largest airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, and Stansted, are set to miss the June deadline for installing new security scanners, causing the ban on carrying liquids in hand luggage to persist this summer. The new computed tomography (CT) scanners offer improved 3D imaging, allowing passengers to keep laptops and liquids in their hand luggage at some airports. However, until all airports comply, the Department for Transport is unlikely to ease restrictions on liquid container sizes. The technology promises faster security processes but faces challenges in implementation, costs, and training requirements. We may have to wait a little bit longer before taking bottled water through airport security 💧 UK airports are set to extend the installation of new security scanners until 2025, postponing the original June 2024 deadline due to concerns from major airports like Heathrow, London Gatwick, and Manchester Airport, alongside global supply chain shortages. These state-of-the-art CT scanners, already operational at London City Airport and Teesside International Airport, utilise advanced X-ray technology to produce clearer, 3D images. Allowing items to remain in bags and increasing the liquid limit in hand luggage to two litres. The delay is sure to frustrate frequent travellers, especially those who need to get from A to B quickly – but what do you think of the news? #TravelUpdates #UKTravel #TravelNews #ACETravel #ATG

Exciting news for 'thirsty' travelers! Airports are getting new CT scanners that could change the way we pack forever. Imagine not having to worry about that pesky 100ml limit on liquids in your carry-on! These scanners give security a super clear 3D view of what's in your bag, making checks quicker and smoother. While some airports already have these scanners, by June 2024, we could see them everywhere. And here's the best part – with this technology, more people might choose to travel with just a carry-on, saving money on luggage fees and making the whole travel experience a lot easier. What do you think about hassle-free packing? #Aero #Technology #Security https://lnkd.in/ek_J65Xr

Airport Security: Germany: Technology: Throughput improvement: Modern scanners are intended to shorten waiting times: The introduction of modern hand luggage scanners based on computer tomography could help reduce long queues at security gates at German airports. However, these scanners are still in short supply at many locations. The installation of the new devices is progressing slowly before the holiday season, as a request by Der Spiegel to the Federal Police and the Government of Upper Bavaria revealed. The modern technology has the advantage that the hand luggage of more than 200 passengers can be scanned per hour, which represents an increase of 40 percent compared to previous capacities.

✈️🎒👍 Tallinn Airport is simplifying security checks with new scanners in April. You won’t have to remove liquids and laptops from your hand luggage. The scanners, displaying bag contents in 3D, aim to streamline the process. While this rule change applies at Tallinn Airport, it may not be the case elsewhere. Keep in mind, due to reconstruction, arriving two hours before your flight is recommended. Happy and hassle-free travels ahead! #OJTravel #MarineTravel #TallinnAirport #TravelUpdates #SecurityChecks https://lnkd.in/dX6FbGyD?

How Print Management Leads to Seamless Passenger Experiences What is the most frustrating thing passengers must do at an airport? Wait in a queue, and then another one, and another one. Airports looking to create better passenger experiences need to consider ways to make it easier for passengers to get from A to B without requiring them to be at the airport hours and hours before they’re scheduled to fly. This is where print management solutions can come to the fore. Read more here https://lnkd.in/dMbtwbPQ #printsol #printmanagement #airport #printmanagmentsolutions

Taking electronics out of the carry-on luggage for preflight #security screening seems like a standard procedure, but it’ll soon become a thing of the past in #HKIA. Starting this month, we’ll begin implementing a new #smart security screening system in phases, making HKIA the world's first to operate smart security screening channels in the entire airport. The existing 2D screening capability will be replaced by 3D and 360° CT-based X-ray scanning technology, allowing passengers to keep their electronic devices, liquids, aerosols and gels in their carry-on luggage, significantly streamlining the screening procedure. The new system is also packed with highly sophisticated features such as auto tray recirculation, in-built tray sterilisation, and automatic alerts for uncollected items, vastly enhancing the passenger experience and operational performance. To reduce unnecessary physical contact with the security staff, we’re also employing full-body scanners for further screening to replace the existing manual search that uses a hand-held detector, in which advanced imaging technology will accurately locate concealed items while respecting our passengers’ privacy. The new passenger security screening system is already operational in part of the South and North Departures Immigration Halls of Terminal 1 since 2 July. With plans to reach a total of 50 channels and 32 full-body scanners in phases in Terminal 1, the new system is expected to increase overall passenger handling throughput by 20%. These upgrades are an exciting addition to the world-class infrastructure and airport experience at HKIA, without compromising passenger and flight safety. #hongkongairport #hkairport #hkg #airports #aviation #HKIAtechnology #technology #airportoperations #safety #smartairport

Two identical bags purchased from the same store at the same moment ought to be exactly alike, right? Well, tests conducted on a national Olympic team, who all used identical luggage, revealed that each athlete's bag could be uniquely identified with an accuracy of 95 to 98%. The unique characteristics of your luggage, such as scratches, marks, and other distinct features, make each piece unique. These elements are used in the Biometric Bag ID system, which is essentially a collection of photographs that serve as a unique identifier for each bag. Learn how this advancement in digitalizing the travel experience can contribute to sustainability and decrease the chances of luggage mishandling: https://okt.to/GK0IYo #AirportInnovation #BaggageHandling #Sustainability
