More than 100 Cornell students heard firsthand about the transition from undergraduate studies to professional careers in tech at the annual alumni roundtable event hosted by the Cornell Bowers Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and several student groups. Four alumni panelists shared their experiences navigating the job market, preparing for technical careers, and adapting to full-time roles. An update on Formation's 2024 outcomes so far this year. 🤯 The TLDR: record high average compensation increases and 75% of placements went to top tier tech companies. We're adapting to the changing market in real time and firing on all cylinders to help Fellows level up their SWE careers. The job market is challenging, particularly for people with under 2 years of work experience, and these outcomes are the result of four things: 1️⃣ Incredibly resilient Fellows who are showing up every day at Formation and pouring their heart into it. 2️⃣ Relentless drive from the Formation staff to dot all the I's and cross all the T's and make sure Fellows get exactly what they need when they need it. 3️⃣ Mentors who are going the extra mile by making time for Fellows and who genuinely care about seeing Fellows succeed. 4️⃣ Last but not least, the Formation Platform is the engine that makes it all happen. Formation is a technology company with a deep bench of product talent and we have invested from day 1 FIVE YEARS AGO in building a product from the ground up that facilitates all the practice and mentorship above. We're so proud of our Fellows! 🤩 Formation’s mission is to create the diverse engineering workforce we want to see in the world, and we’re thrilled to share our results from the first half of the year. Here’s a glimpse at outcomes for those who landed outstanding new roles in the first half 2024: ⭐ 43% of our Fellows identified as being from one or more underrepresented backgrounds in tech. ⭐ $127,286 was the average increase in first-year total compensation. ⭐ 75% of this year’s placements were at top-tier tech companies. ⭐ $243,525 was the average first-year total compensation for our Fellows.
