It was an insightful experience to join the Belgian financial community at the New Year Event 2025, organized by Euronext and GUBERNA - Instituut voor Bestuurders/Institut des Administrateurs. The event provided a forum for discussions on the Future of Industry in Europe, emphasizing the importance of governance, innovation, and leadership in addressing Europe's key challenges. It's clear that shaping Europe's future, staying globally competitive, and adapting to an evolving geopolitical landscape are urgent priorities. Sandra Gobert (she/her) highlighted 2025 as a defining year for Europe and Corporate Governance. The message was powerful: effective governance is not just about compliance but about fostering bold and strategic leadership. It was a pleasure meeting you and hearing your perspective on how fewer regulation can strengthen governance, particularly in driving LT strategic growth. Other key takeaways from this event: - Climate change, geopolitical shifts, and Europe's competitiveness are crucial for future generations. - Investing in technology is essential, and preparing future generations with strong education to work with these technologies is equally important. - Enhancing productivity through capital investment can address market fragmentation. - Streamlining regulations will level the playing field. - Europe's 2% of GDP innovation investment falls behind other regions; closing the gap is essential.
