Looking back on Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to spotlight the incredible work our team is doing to create environments that prioritize mental health and well-being. Across our portfolio, we have implemented sustainable building practices, indoor-outdoor connectivity and events programming to encourage a healthy lifestyle for tenants, residents and visitors. A prime example of this is Bromley Hall, our student housing community at the University of Illinois. Given the particular mental health needs of college students, we offer bimonthly wellness checks, community events and ample outdoor spaces for residents to feel supported and maintain positive physical and mental health. Developers have a unique opportunity to shape the built environment in support of mental wellness, and we’re proud to play our part.

The colors in our living spaces significantly impact our mood and well-being. In residence halls, color choices can foster a sense of community, calmness, or energy. Warm colors like reds and oranges stimulate social interaction and creativity, while cool colors like blues and greens promote relaxation and focus. Neutral tones provide balance and reduce stress. Thoughtful use of color can enhance the residential experience, making students feel more at home and positively influencing their mental health. #InteriorDesign #StudentLiving #PsychologyOfColor #CampusLife #Wellbeing

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Georgia Appleseed is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of students through our School-Based Behavioral Health (SBBH) programs. Given the pivotal role schools play in students' lives, providing mental health support within these environments is crucial. SBBH programs address the significant rise in behavioral health disorders among American youth—a trend exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. By integrating mental health services into school settings, we remove barriers to access such as transportation and stigma, making these essential services available right where students are most comfortable. This month, we highlight the importance of these programs, which not only support individual students but also contribute to healthier, more engaged school communities. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eEKD4_Yd and help ensure that all students have the support they need to succeed and thrive. Let's make mental health support as common as the school lunch! #MentalHealthAwareness #SchoolBasedBehavioralHealth #SBBH #GeorgiaAppleseed

Ever wondered how some kids weather storms better than others? 🤔 As a NYC educator and an aspiring mental health therapist, I’ve delved deep into building resilience in children and teens. But what’s the secret ingredient? From my classroom experiences, I’ve seen resilience isn’t just innate; it’s cultivated. It’s about teaching kids to navigate emotions, face challenges, and bounce back stronger. One powerful tool⁉️ Encouraging problem-solving and critical thinking through real-life scenarios and discussions. This not only builds resilience but also instills a sense of accomplishment and self-efficacy. But there’s more. A supportive environment is key. This includes positive role models, safe spaces for expression, and an understanding community. As educators and mental health professionals, we can create these nurturing environments in schools and beyond. - - - Small businesses, community organizations, and schools, let’s collaborate to foster resilience in our youth. 💻 Visit https://lnkd.in/eHpenwPw to book an appointment. #wellnesswednesday - - huge shoutout to Erica Larkin Martin and the Wellness, Family, and Community Engagement team at Antelope High School #GoTitans! A child’s wellbeing is a complex concept that requires attention to various domains, including physical health and educational achievement. Schools are essential in fostering children’s development, as they spend most of their time outside their homes there. The state must prioritize establishing schools as centers for wellness and healing. By focusing on prevention and early intervention services, we can ensure that children’s mental health needs are met, and they can thrive in all aspects of their lives. With an increasing number of children struggling with trauma, investing in this area will have a significant return. It's crucial for all of us, from different backgrounds and professions, to come together and advocate for greater prevention and early intervention services for children’s mental health. Let's work together to create a brighter future for our children and communities. #wellness #wellnessmatters #wellnessjourney #wellnesscoach Every Young Heart And Mind: Schools As Centers Of Wellness References University of California, Davis Amsterdam UMC University Medical Center

Wrapping up our mental health ABCs, we land on “D” for Direct Support. In this chapter, we explore mental health support options . Today’s focus: Special Educators Special educators are trained to work with children who have a variety of disabilities, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, emotional and behavioral disorders, and physical disabilities. Here physical disabilities refers to low motor skill development. Special educators develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each child, helping them achieve their learning milestones and full potential. If you think someone needs this support, a special educator can collaborate with them as a team member to help them reach their potential. Our Rise Above youth summit just completed week two of their three-week summer intensive! This summer, students are completing a certificate in Teen Mental Health First Aid USA with Community Services Group and the Racial Equity Institute with YWCA Lancaster. 17 Lancaster County high school students have immersed themselves into new topics and themes and learned from professionals and local creatives. Students have learned from each other and their Safe Space Coordinators (facilitators of the workshops). We call our facilitators Safe Space Coordinators, because not only are they engaging with the students on topics of mental health, but they are also creating a space that is open for questions, comments, and everything in-between for those that are just starting to learn about mental health. We are grateful to our community partners who have shared their time and expertise to support this program. Staff from Community Services Group, Samaritan Center, Lancaster, YWCA Lancaster, and over 30 local artists have joined us in this summer's Rise Above youth summit! Artists include Evita Colon, Sir Dominique Jordan, Yaz Saldana, Vania Hardy, Wednesday, The Ripple Effect, Valosh Patisserie, Mabel Bachini, Malia Burris, Sam Soliman, and more! These students are wise beyond their years, and they have already inspired us in our mission. We cannot wait to see what they share with us next week during their presentations!
