📚Today is International #EducationDay! 🙌🏽 Today and always, we affirm our commitment to #education as one of our three key areas of work. ➡️ Education is an essential component across all of our projects, including our Gender-Migration Index (GMI). The GMI is based on an indicator system that ensures gender-responsiveness and migrant-inclusion in benchmarking policy, particularly in regards to monitoring and evaluation. ✨ Most recently, we used the GMI to assess gender-responsiveness in the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and its implementation through pledges - education formed a focus policy area. 🗣 Diana Muresan, our Research and Advocacy Fellow, who conducted the analysis shares: "Education is enhanced by tools that facilitate knowledge growth. The Gender Migration Index (GMI) does this by revealing gaps in gender-responsiveness in policy and by providing solutions in addressing gender inequities such as in refugee education." 🆕 Read more about this in our Guidance Note: Spotlight Education. #migration #gender #justice

Today marks #WorldRefugeeDay2024 🟧⬛🟧 As Europe continues to see growth in far-right racist discourse and political leaders fueling hate against migrants and refugees, we at IGLYO celebrate the importance of migrants and refugees to Europe. We particularly call on governments across the region to remember their commitments to refugees and their rights as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human rights and the 1951 UN Refugee Convention. ⚖️ While we take particular interest in LGBTQI children and youth seeking asylum, we emphasise the rights of all facing persecution to seek safety. To be human is to migrate to find safety and security for yourself and your family. Any movement which opposes this opposes the fundamental dignity of their fellow human beings. Today we call on European society to remember this and to end the dehumanising hate targeting innocent people simply seeking a brighter future. We call on European institutions and national governments promoting LGBTQI equality, to protect the rights of everyone in our communities, including refugees and those who seek asylum. 💜 #LGBTQI #Queer #Youth #Refugees #RefugeesWelcome

Today, as we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, let’s remind ourselves of the power of unity, understanding, and compassion. This day is not just a call to action against injustice but a reminder of our collective responsibility to foster an inclusive world where diversity is celebrated and every individual is respected regardless of their race or ethnic background. At UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency we stand firm in our commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. We believe in the strength that comes from diverse perspectives and the innovation sparked by embracing differences. We encourage everyone to reflect on how we can contribute to eliminating racial discrimination, not just today but every day. Whether it’s through educating ourselves and others, speaking out against injustices, or supporting organizations that fight for racial equality, every action counts. Let’s work together to build a more inclusive and equitable world. #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity #StopRacism #FightRacism

MYTH: Asylum seekers and refugee claimants are not a highly employable talent source and are only capable of minimum wage survival jobs. FACT: At Jumpstart Refugee Talent, we know that the growing number of refugee claimants are an opportunity for the 120+ Canadian employers we partner with. Here's what we know about them: - 87% have post-secondary education - They hail from 64 different countries: almost all are BIPOC, one-third women, many are LGBTQ+ which dovetails nicely with employers with meaningful DEIB strategies - Sure they have accents (so do I!) but 100% of them speak great English (with a CLB level 6 or higher) - 100% of them are resilient and adaptable having overcome personal circumstances that would wilt average Canadians - they have a greater sense of loyalty to their employers which leads to higher retention Either visit our website https://lnkd.in/gqAdVmBb OR DM me directly if you are interested in either hiring or mentoring one of our refugee claimants.
