The Climate Propagandist’s Post

We published a guide on how to spot 'thinkwashing' in collaboration with Intersectional Environmentalist! It was in the works for a while because of the holiday season, and we are so pleased to be back in action dissecting fossil fuel misinformation tactics. We have all experienced 'thinkwashing' by now, though you wouldn’t know it. It is yet another climate delay tactic used by polluting industries to ignore simple solutions and instill inaction. Here are the three easy clues that'll help you spot thinkwashing in action: 🧠 Overtly complex messaging meant to trigger analysis paralysis, 🌟 Campaigns that insist on perfection in policy and practice, instead of acknowledging necessary progress, and ⏳ Messaging that aims to maintain the status quo, resist change or progress, ignore moral criticisms, and downplay severity of the problem. This guide comes complete with real-life ad examples that play on logical fallacies, exaggerate the so-called 'consequences' of climate action, and conveniently ignore alternative solutions. 💌 Special thanks to the IE team for their support and insight: Leah ThomasSabs Katz, and Diandra Marizet Esparza. Adding this one to the Climate Words lexicon... Good stuff here!
