Yesterday, I had one of those tough conversations with a Security Systems Technician going through the interview process for a job he REALLY wanted. The company chose another candidate with similar experience, the same salary expectations, but one key difference—the other candidate had a Low Voltage License, and my technician didn’t. I’ve had this conversation far too often. Many techs go years without getting their Low Voltage license because their employers didn’t require it. But when they look to move forward in their career, this becomes a roadblock. So here’s my advice to all the security systems and fire alarm techs out there: GET YOUR LICENSE. It can be the game-changer that sets you apart. 💰 Earn More – Licensed techs get the better paychecks, hands down. As a junior IT technician, I recently encountered a network issue that provided a valuable learning experience. Initially, I suspected a faulty LAN port on a wall, but upon further guidance from my supervisor, I checked the connected switch and discovered a loose cable. This experience reinforced an important lesson: When troubleshooting network problems, avoid simply making assumptions about faulty components.
