We have fantastic news on the academic boost - or "value-added" score - we give to all our students. 2023 results from the Cambridge Centre for Evaluation & Monitoring (CEM) put us in the top 6% of schools for value-add at A Level, when compared to both independent and state sectors. For GCSE, the measurements put Walthamstow Hall 24th out of 283 independent schools, so within the top 10% of the private sector. The scores aim to show how much progress an individual student has made from his or her starting point. Students' GCSE and A Level results are mapped onto their predicted grades based on Cognitive Ability Tests they sit in Y7 and Y12. Any improvement is deemed to be the 'value-add' given by their school. The takeaway is that if you want your daughter to do the best she can academically, you've done the right thing sending her to Wally.

Navigating the realm of UK primary schools requires not only passion but also a deep comprehension of the curriculum and prevailing teaching methodologies. Let’s uncover the core tenets: 📘 National Curriculum: Acting as the cornerstone, the National Curriculum charts out the academic voyage for primary pupils. Encompassing core modules like English, maths, and science, and enriched by foundation subjects like history and art, it’s imperative for educators to be well-versed in its intricacies. #KnowledgeIsPower 🍼 Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): Tailored for the youngest learners (0-5 years), the EYFS earmarks foundational learning goals. Spanning seven learning domains, including communication and personal development, it's the bedrock for early education in England. #StartStrong 🔡 Phonics: An essential ingredient in the reading recipe, phonics zeroes in on letter sounds. A staple in Reception and Key Stage 1, mastering phonics teaching is non-negotiable for priming students in reading. #ReadingIsFundamental 📋 Assessment and Reporting: A dual-edged sword of gauging student progression and conveying it to parents, effective assessment techniques are pivotal. Alongside, seamless communication with parents is key to building #ParentTeacherPartnership. 🌍 Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education: Mandated across UK primary schools, #PSHE illuminates varied facets, from relationships to financial literacy. As torchbearers, teachers infuse these life lessons into the broader academic framework. 🎭 Differentiated Instruction: Recognizing the diverse learning tapestries of students, tailoring instructions becomes indispensable. Be it diverse teaching techniques, skill-based groupings, or augmenting support, differentiation is the mantra. #EveryChildMatters In essence, to truly flourish in the UK’s primary education sector, immersing oneself in the curriculum and teaching paradigms is quintessential. Equipped with this knowledge, educators are poised to sculpt the future of their wards with precision and care. Teacher Recruitment and Retention in 2023 I've been reflecting on the statement issued by the EEF earlier this year about teacher recruitment and retention, and the impact that this is having on learners from disadvantaged backgrounds. My blog post reflecting on this further is linked here: https://lnkd.in/eit2JR2G It's a complex topic, that can by no means be summed up in a brief blog post (!) but I'd love to hear your thoughts and I await with interest, the findings shared by the EEF as a result of their research into this this year. #teachers #schools #education #students #equityineducation #cpd

📚 Investing in Teaching Assistants: A Smart Move for Schools! 🌟 That's what our clients tell us.... In any educational institution, the role of teaching assistants (TAs) cannot be overlooked. They play a crucial part in shaping the learning experience for all students. ✅ Personalized Attention: With smaller group sizes, TAs can provide more personalized attention to students, identifying their unique needs and addressing challenges effectively. 🤝 ✅ Enriching Classroom Experience: TAs bring fresh perspectives, diverse skill sets, and innovative teaching methods, enriching the overall classroom experience. 🌈 ✅ Increased Student Success: Studies have shown that schools with well-supported TAs witness higher student success rates, improved exam scores, and better engagement. 📈 As schools break for summer we are supporting schools with the recruitment of over 300 support staff that will all be starting this September. If you are still in need of support staff to join you this September then get in touch and the team at LMP Education will be able to support you. jamie@lmpeducation.org #EducationMatters #TeachingAssistants #StudentSuccess #summer2023

Very important debate here. Teaching quality is everything. Teachers with the ability to engage and teach all levels of students is what we need. We need to give teachers the time and tools like those developed by Sean Warren to reflect on their practise and develop their skills like any other workforce. If we did it would make Ofsted job easier as well to be accurate in their assessments and feedback. We need to put the support and training mechanisms around teachers in the same way as elite sporting talent is supported. https://lnkd.in/g9pKbbZ8

As a former teacher lets fill in some areas that have come to light that get brushed away. Parents getting fined by local councils for taking their children out during school time. SCHOOLS lead on this it's only a civil matter if the fine isn't paid. Ofsted are revising their approach on inspections after a head teacher took their own life following mental health illness impacted by a poor Ofsted rating. This is because contracts are terminated on the back of an external inspections that are so bureaucratic and dated. I tell you now if they come for 3 days you're not getting a 'Good' and the duration of their stay is started before they ever set foot in the school because it's based GCSE results. This means pressure is laser focused on children's results and not their pathway nor their skillset. The same pressure is on teachers if a student gets a 3 instead of a 4 in Maths you need to show clear evidence of all intervention you made for that child or you face internal scrutiny, are denied progression paths including pay increases and are placed on additional observations. Luckily I taught PE and nobody cared, GCSE PE has been removed in most schools in place of BTEC Sport courses that simply put are easier to pass. This is actually a good thing to be fair. Students with struggles are simply not supported and schools try to get them off their records knowing it's all about results day in August. Education should not be all about a 2 hour exam after 11 years of learning. Cheers Ofsted for instilling fear for school staff of termination or ridicule in their areas of expertise why don't you start by observing best practice and instilling appropriate training opportunities for struggling staff than give a grade system?

A potential #educationresearch study that could be conducted in the State of Florida: 1. Can individual student growth from PM2 to PM3 in the Grade 10 ELA assessment predict student growth from the PSAT/NMSQT taken in the 10th grade to the SAT taken in the 12th grade? 2. Can individual student growth in the Grade 10 ELA assessment from PM1 to PM3 predict student growth between the PSAT/NMSQT taken in the 10th grade to the SAT taken in the 12th grade? Of course, it would focus on the reading and English portions of the SAT suite of assessments. This could be something to inform researchers and practitioners in the ongoing focus on NAEP scores, college and career readiness, and equity in education. #k12education #studentgrowth
