💡Presenting and attending the COSA Seaside Conference was illuminating. This year, I had the opportunity to facilitate dozens of professional learning sessions for educators, paraprofessionals, and counselors. I also planned and hosted several collaboratives to break down silos and bring community partners and school community members together. Despite all of this experience, being in a licensure program for educational administration, and my belief that hierarchical power does not make people more important, I was extremely nervous about presenting to administrators. 🪞However, the conference offered me several key takeaways: 1. I have an incredible team and we do great things together. While I had the privilege of planning our presentation, it wasn't all on my shoulders. My incredible colleagues showed up brilliantly, and we were able to share our approach to supporting Student Behavioral Health & Wellness with a group of 50+ administrators who care deeply about the people they serve in different Oregon regions. 2. Administrators are just people, each with their own hopes, fears, and cultural identities that make up the multifaceted person they present to the world. 3. Legal compliance is important, but in order for me to remain in alignment with my WHY as an educational leader, I must continually refocus on my equity lens, which involves a vision for inclusion and belonging for all kids. 4. The power of coming together as a team and connecting as human beings is vital for staff. It reinforces our shared mission and strengthens our community. There are more thoughts percolating, but that's at the forefront for me right now. #COSA #COSALEADERSHIP

September for many people can be a time for reflection. As the busy summer period draws to a close , whether it has been one focused around the school holiday juggle, or navigating a busy social calendar, it can be the first time in a while when we take stock and adjust to a new normality. This time is also an opportunity for us to look at our own need for focus and development. It is very easy to look at what others are doing, how they appear to be juggling or succeeding in their own careers and lives. Before we know it we are in a rabbit hole of comparison and see no way out. I have loved my Wednesday exploration sessions this month. It's a time for people to purely focus on themselves. Learn what it is they want, how they can motivate themselves to get that and find their confidence to make it happen. I still have some spaces left, so if you or anyone in your team needs some support in creating this focus book your space today. https://lnkd.in/emU7Ez9m?

Inclusion & Wellbeing Consultant, Coach, Advisor & Mentor for School Leaders, Staff, Parents / Carers, Children & Young People
This is the core reason that I work with schools to support the wellbeing of the staff team.🙌I don’t put on ‘wellbeing days’ or provide staff ‘team-building’ workshops- although I do see a place for this - this isn’t my place. My work runs deeper than this- my job in your school is to get ‘in there’ with your staff and get to the root of the issues that are negatively effecting their own wellbeing because my belief is this is where the positive changes start! From here we create a plan together which can involve a multitude of strategies:➡️ Supporting effective communication between teaching, staff, support staff and SLT.➡️ Supporting effective communication between school staff and parents/carers.➡️ Supporting the development of understanding and effective strategies for specific children and whole classes.➡️ Supporting the creation of a specific whole school ethos and culture. All of this, and more that I can offer, is designed to support the wellbeing of the WHOLE staff team through feeling heard and supported on a regular basis- it shows you care about them and their needs too! This, in turn, supports the needs of the children and families that you all work with which is the whole reason we all do what we do!There are SO many ways that I can support you, your school and your families, and we can work together to find out how to tailor my support to make it work for you.The only thing i ask from you - is that you are as committed to the goals we discuss and create as I am, because then we will really see the magic happen! 💪I don’t just come in to tick a box- I come in to give you, your staff and your families what they need- just ask those I already work with.🙌

Closing words from this week's CAG Devon Wellbeing for Changemakers session. Small group this week - others busy with Big Green Week events. We looked at Task Analysis - exploring how breaking activities down into small steps helps us shine a light on our own preferences and patterns. Of course, we don't always have free reign about which elements of a task we complete. But we do often have more choice than we think. We've started playing with creativity at the beginning of these sessions and it's working well. It's helping us all leave the day behind, switch gears and open up to new possibilities. Potent stuff. Next time, we're looking at the Drama Triangle. This is where my counselling skills studies come in handy. Blending learning from a range of arenas. Exciting times. Curious about how it all fits together? Book a call: https://lnkd.in/dddHxNJn #wideheartedliving #wellbeingforchangemakers #wellbeingatwork #creativity

Author, presenter & consultant, with background in social psychology, motivation and mental health. Founder of Contextual Wellbeing. Founder and Co-Chair of Positive Schools @PositiveSchools,
Its time to have a conversation about 'what really matters'... ...so we can make sure we are investing our time, energy and money in 'what really matters' in our schools. Join me for a two-day Positive Schools 'Big Workshop' in four states, in Australia, in 2024; developed to help you realistically and meaningfully build positive behaviours, genuine engagement and overall wellbeing in your schools. Come along to discover how to meaningfully explore, understand and develop 'what matters' in your classrooms and whole school communities; so you can develop what genuinely matters in your classrooms and school communities. I believe it is time to turn our attentions away from the 'next big thing' in wellbeing programs, and ensure we are embracing day-to-day school life that reflects our own measures of success. No program can override the impact of unhealthy classroom norms, or contradictory policy and practice. In fact, no program works through ideals and theory alone. We can't simply tell each other how to live well. Rather, it takes real-world understanding and experience to develop well schools. This is what Contextual Wellbeing is all about. Justin Roberts from The MacKillop Institute, along with school psychologists from the Australian Psychological Society (APS) will join me to help you make the most of this special opportunity to better understand and develop your school, your way. Visit www.PositiveSchools.com.au to find out more, and register NOTE - This is a workshop style event which means places are limited. Positive Schools #ContextualWellbeing
