Cultivating the good life for ALL of our children.

About us

**IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE APPLY FOR ALL POSITIONS THROUGH OUR POSTS, NOT THROUGH THE LINKEDIN-GENERATED JOBS. Nebraska Children’s mission is to create positive change for children through community engagement. Working with local, state, and national partners, Nebraska Children cultivates the good life for all of our children, from cradle to career. We envision a Nebraska where all children have the resources and support needed to realize their full potential. Nebraska Children and Families Foundation has a unique approach to solving large, complex social issues that affect our state’s children. It’s based on two core beliefs: 1. Prevention works. It’s the most effective and fiscally responsible approach for addressing complex social problems. 2. Channeling a community’s existing resources toward a common goal will maximize their effectiveness. Every initiative we undertake aligns with these principles. Our programs are preventive in nature, designed to keep children out of the welfare and criminal justice systems from birth through age 24. And our approach encompasses all the resources a community has to offer, helping to ensure community ownership of the process and outcomes. The end goal is to prepare all of Nebraska’s children for success in school and in life.

Earlier this month, our Communities for Kids (C4K) team was honored to participate in the 2024 Governor’s Ag and Economic Development Summit in Kearney, where child care took center stage for the first time. The Foundation for Community Growth hosted a panel on Housing and Child Care, co-moderated by Marti McFadden Beard (C4K) and Shannon R Harner (Nebraska Investment Finance Authority), featuring insightful contributions from Lindsey Jarecki (Boone Beginnings Early Childhood & Family Center), Alejandra Lopez (Pattys Childcare Center), and Brooke Puffer (Little Eagles Learning Center). At the summit, C4K led the Child Care Action Hour, bringing together diverse leaders from Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance, USDA, Rural Prosperity Nebraska, SCENND, economic directors, rural communities, and Nebraska Farm Bureau. Together, they envisioned "affordable, quality early childhood care for all," focusing on professionalism and sustainability through strategic partnerships. Key strategies that emerged include: ▪️ Investment in Early Childhood: Advocating for tax allocation to community-based programs and legislation supporting child care funding. • Development of Key Partnerships: Collaborating with schools, senior care facilities, businesses, and local economic development. • Training and Resources: Promoting early brain development awareness and establishing local resource hubs for providers and families. We appreciate Governor Jim Pillen for bringing together an important group to take part in creating actionable steps for a brighter future in child care across Nebraska. Thank you to K.C. Belitz and Nebraska Department of Economic Development for the invitation! C4K team members (L to R): Katrina Hurley, Rachel Sissel, Shonna Werth, Marti McFadden Beard, Melissa Polinoski, & Catie Ganzel

  • In 2021, South Omaha families shared concerns about their children’s school readiness and social-emotional development. Rooted in Relationships listened and teamed up with early childhood educators to create a plan of action. One key finding? A lack of professional development opportunities for educators in Spanish. Discover how a “neighborhood approach” is bridging this gap and bringing essential resources to those previously left out. #EarlyChildhood #CommunityImpact #RootedinRelationships https://lnkd.in/gpgdfnra

  • Great News from Sixpence! Omaha Public Schools, in partnership with Educare of Omaha, Inc., and Loup City Public Schools, in collaboration with Educational Service Unit 10, will receive $225,000 Sixpence grants. Sixpence, a unique funding structure involving the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Nebraska Department of Education, and private sector investors, has supported 47 community partnerships since 2008. Recent data reveals that over 40% of Nebraska children under age 3, face developmental risks that could hinder their readiness for kindergarten. These children are more likely to struggle in school, attain a lower level of education, enter the criminal justice system, develop chronic health problems, and earn less as working adults. While parents are key to early learning, many families depend on child care while they work. The new Sixpence Childcare Partnership grants ensure that more infants and toddlers receive high-quality early learning, setting a strong foundation and helping to close the achievement gap. This third round of Sixpence grants aimed at fostering partnerships between school districts and licensed childcare providers, all under the guidelines of Nebraska Step Up to Quality rating system. These Sixpence Childhood Partnerships (CCP) are fully federally funded through a sub-award from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to Nebraska Children, using Child Care Development Funds.
