A message from our Trustees and staff. In light of the disorder and violence seen across the country over the last week, Croydon Voluntary Actions wants to reach out to our communities and beyond. Like so many others, we have been appalled by the racist violence that has been used to terrorise communities across the UK. The roots of this hatred and intimidation lie deep in our society - fed and exploited over many years. However, what has become even more apparent this last week is how individual and community acts of love, care, and resistance have challenged, with such apparent confidence, any drift into believing that we are anything but united against hatred, intolerance and division. The strength of Croydon is in the diversity of this great borough and our message is clear that we are united against hatred, intolerance and division. People or the organisations we work alongside will not stand for these challenges to community cohesion. Charities, community groups and faith organisations will not bow down to threats. We already work hand in hand delivering social change, improving people’s lives, and responding to emergencies - and we will continue to do so to defeat those responsible for these horrific acts. #strongertogether

For many people we support, the recent far-right protests have roused feelings of insecurity in a place they call home. Some of these people have fled war, conflict and persecution, with no other choice but to leave everything behind in search of safety and security. Instead, they’ve been met with hostility – and most recently, violence - no doubt adding to the trauma many of them have already experienced. Our teams are doing all they can to support our refugee and asylum-seeking clients, reminding them that the majority stand in solidarity against this terror and violence, and that the UK can provide a safe haven to raise their children and rebuild their lives. It's been a challenging week for many in the midst of far-right riots, and here at CAM we were especially saddened to see CITIZENS ADVICE SUNDERLAND attacked at the weekend. As local charities who exist to help people find a way forward, it's heartbreaking to have this ability limited. What has been uplifting, however, has been the show of solidarity and community as people have rallied round in support, making us feel incredibly proud to be part of the Citizens Advice network. There is no place for hate. As a proudly anti-racist service, we will always strive to support those who find themselves at the sharp end of discrimination. We're also a hate crime reporting centre, just another way that we can be there to support people in times of crisis. We are the people's champion. Great to see support for young people and Foyers by Minister #MeaghanScanlon #Housing #LocalGovernment in #Queensland 👊 There are already 40k young people in Australia experiencing #homelessness for a variety of reasons. However even more young people's futures are at serious risk with the current #costoflivingcrisis. In #Queensland alone, 6 more #Foyers would support 2,000 more young people with safe #accommodation #education & #employment pathways. This is an incredible opportunity for #Government & local #communities to back young people. The #social #cultural #economic #roi is a no brainer - everyone benefits when young people thrive - but the world is changing fast, learning and work are not standing still. Global Generosity Movement Tuesday November 28, 2023 is a day to focus on ways to contribute to our communities and improve lives of others. HMSHost @ Toronto Pearson YYZ have an annual Warm Weather Drive in support of our Homeless Youth  in Peel Region. We donate coats, gloves, hats, blankets , sweaters, boots and socks to "Our Place Peel". As our cold weather months approach and pressure on affordable housing and shelters our donations will make a difference. A few years ago I rehired an associate who had faced homelessness and had lost his toes from frostbite- our goal is to help the youth and support them during challenging times. Everyone Counts - a Community Report noted the following statistics. ( Peel) 27% of respondents indicated they first experienced homelessness as a youth. 6% of respondents indicated they first experienced homelessness as a child. "Homelessness is often the result of what are known as systemic or societal barriers including a lack of affordable and appropriate housing. the individual/households financial, mental, cognitive, behavioural or physical challenges, and/or racism and discrimination". 28 Women have been murdered to violence since 2024, that is more than 1 per week. What Were You Wearing? - Australia National Rally has been created by individuals across every state/city in Australia as a response to this national emergency. I personally have been spending multiple hours before and after work organising the Sydney and Canberra rallies, as well as resources and logistics at a national level. All people working on this project are unpaid/volunteer and want to see real change be made within our government, systems and communities. We want these rallies to be as safe and as effective as possible, and unfortunately to do so certain things cost money. Due to this we have collectively agreed on making a Go Fund Me page to ask the community for help. Where will your donation be going? - making these as inclusive as possible including paid Welcome to Country, AUSLAN interpreters, accessibility aids, etc - extra security as we are very conscious of recent events and how many people (especially women) are feeling right now. - volunteer resources such as high-vis vests, sunscreen, flyers and more. We are not funded by the government and all donations we receive go to our healing groups and other services. WWYW are not funded by the government and all our donations and profits go to providing services for victim-survivors of SA. In the lifetime of a young Londoner, we start with food as the foundation.   We are the largest provider of holiday food and activities in the capital, working with community partners in every borough to ensure children facing the biggest barriers not only survive but thrive. With 13 weeks away from school each year, we’re the bridge between term times that keeps young Londoners growing.   In 2023, our Food and Communities programmes engaged 54,124 children and young people, providing 471,056 meals. Our 2023 Impact Report reflects our reach and progress through the stories of those we work with, like 12-year-old Shaun on page six.
